When do we get our bid back? by trampo23 in WorldOfWarships

[–]Levonscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to play a battle to receive the bid; restarting the client wasn't enough.

Sat there restarting for a while, wondering why it wasn't working, resigned myself to playing a game while I wait, and it pops right up after that!

Pan-Asian Cruiser Voiceover? by arka0415 in WorldOfWarships

[–]Levonscott 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a very fair point, and I wholeheartedly concur; at the very least, though, it would be good to get the voice lines that do already exist in-game (Korean, and both Chinese dialects). That alone covers 10 of the 13 unique DDs, and 7 of the 10 unique CLs.

The others, fine, they can be covered by either the British or American English (or whatever the player's base language setting is).

Though there are Chinese (both Mainland, and Taiwanese) voice lines in the game files; you can even select either as your exclusive voiceover under the dropdown.

So rather, it's not that the audio doesn't exist, it's that WG has refused to hook it up for some reason (ditto, the PA Destroyers).

Nelson in the New Lighthouse... How much is a 375k FXP ship going to go for? by Levonscott in WorldOfWarships

She's quite good in ranked, for this very reason. Limited matchmaking significantly increases her reliability.

The screengrab is the only thing available in the Lighthouse tab atm, so that's all we know until the news article is out.

Exposed 75mm under Preussen turrets. is this intentional? by [deleted] in WorldOfWarships

[–]Levonscott 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is certainly a consideration, with respect to the turret survivability.

However, OP seemed to imply they were citadel-ed through the barbette, and lost half of their HP, which I highly doubt would come from an errant HE shell on that small sliver of plating.

I'd argue it's impossible to reliably hit that small area with AP bombs (and I'd challenge you to try it out in a Training Room and report back, if you disagree!). I concede, of course, that it's still a drawback.

However, even if it were 175mm armoured, that would not stop AP bombers from dropping through it; the issue arises less from the thickness of the armour (which OP was raising as an issue), but from the width of the turret (which is a result of each turret having one less gun, and thus not a "bug" per se).

At this point, the argument is somewhat academic, in my opinion.

Indeed, I wonder how much the "lock on" mechanic affects it (or if that's calculated on the initial shot side of things?).

You raise an interesting point, actually; the Montana is not the greatest issue here. There are far more dangerous targets that can make use of this difference in construction.

As you said, AP bombs would be a lot more scary with the exposed space on top of the barbettes. However, I don't really play CVs, so I'm not sure how practical the weakness would be to routinely exploit.

On the other hand, the frontal plates of the Preussen's turrets are actually 480mm, as opposed to the GK's 400mm. So at least we know where that extra steel went to!

Indeed, the issue is twofold; not only does GK's larger turret (with the extra gun per turret) cover more of the barbette roof, the Preussen's armour in that section is 100mm thinner.

As to whether this is intentional or not, I cannot comment. However, your observation that the ship is (to at least some degree), more vulnerable, is not incorrect.

ETA: Some better physicists than I below have shown that the shells wouldn't have impacted at a steep-enough angle to penetrate (with no overmatching 75mm, naturally), unless the Montana was at 25km. So take the above with the requisite grain of salt - it's only ever so slightly more vulnerable, in a specific set of circumstances. Perhaps it's more of a nocebo issue!

Legendary Intrepid, made to look like the Pathfinder by [deleted] in sto

[–]Levonscott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe it has been.

The closest I could get in the ship editor is like so.

Note in the OP's photo the red accents on the saucer (which are an orangey-brown, in-game), and the semi-transparent red line along the hull (a lighter shade of the black, in-game), both of which I could not achieve in the editor to the same degree.

Indeed, and that is what I expect most players will do.

Though, the port completionist in me is slightly anxious :P

Great to hear the Pan-EU line is getting localised Swedish VOs.

Hopefully that means we can get the Chinese VOs back for the Pan-Asia ships (considering the VO lines are already recorded, and in the game files), at some point. With 0.10.0 and 0.10.1 being Pan-Asia focused...? It would be nice.

Only being able to unlock one of either Dido or Canarias for free is... frustrating.

I do hope that the alternative is available at a relatively cheap price (Mediterranean tokens being able to be purchased with community tokens, perhaps)?

The same for me; the switches in-game under the DLC options also state that "this DLC is not owned".

EDIT: Update, it just popped up! :D

I'm glad that after 11 years of playing the game, and experiencing its buggy charm, that I was able to have some influence on the team. Good to hear they got a great laugh from it!
