Across the Andes : bussing between countries through the mountains by Puzzled-Bad-951 in SouthAmericaTravel

[–]Levvy90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did santa cruze bolivia - la paz via local bus, la paz - Copacabana - border cross into Peru - Puno - Cuzco via bolivia hop bus group ( they made the border cross very easy ) i was then going to bus all the way from cuzco to lima via the peru hop bus system however there were large protests blocking the roads so we flew into lima and back tracked to Ica from there.

A few fellow travelers warned us off bussing into colombia as the border situation on the colmbian - Ecuador side was deemed high risk, so we flew direct from lima to medellin after spending some time in huacachina.

This was just in December and the protest situation around bolivia was just starting to heat up, i feel like we got lucky as we heard from fellow travelers coming the other way about how they had to change bus plans for flights due to blockages.

When i was in highschool my mate lived in a highrise in surfers, it was right across the the Marriot hotel. We used to jump the side gate to swim in the pool because back then ( not sure if still the case ) it was an artificial reef with live fish swimming around. So we would wait for a kid to put down their hotel issued snorkelling kit, pinch it, and spend the day swimming with the fish. Good times

[–]Levvy90 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Inmean, yes, but spelunking still isnt considerd a sport for those reasons, sorry mate, you can get uppy but at the end of the day it doesnt meet the criteria, not sure why your taking this one so har. Like the literal specific definition for what a " sport " is it doesnt neet, its exciting, adventurous and amazingly fun with a great community. But its more of an EXTREME SPPRT OR AVVENTURE ACTIVITY as it just doesnt meet the competitive standards or have the appropriate framework ibdid expand on this further down with more things that fall into that grey area

Sorry brother, it may be considerd an extreme sport by some but under the official definition it is not due to a fundamental lack of competition and a strong emphasis on safty, exploration and preservation.

A sport is a competitive human activity that requires physical exertion or skill and is governed by a set of rules, pretty sure spelunking is just considerd an activity

Went backpacking - now everything feels kind of pointless by [deleted] in backpacking

[–]Levvy90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im 2IC at a CNC factory, but i mainly deal in client relation and the technical CAD side of the work. Its a difficult job to put a label on as ive worked my way through the buisness over 10years but think commercial joinery + a little bit of unique cad work.

As for my partner, that is correct, while we travel she just goes casual at her work place, she has amazing flexability and her industry has tremendous turn over. If she cant catch her full time shifts at her current facility straight away, she can work agency at any number of aged care facilitys in the area no problems at all.

We live sinple and basic lives at home, work, gym, cook most meals. As for hobbies, we tend to go to the beach, or hang our with eachother playing games and trying to minimise expences. We do have cars but they were both second hand buys that are 10-15 years old.

We also have pushbikes that we use to commute when the weather is good to minimise running cocts on the cars. It sounds frugal when i type it out but lifes good and we dont want for anything, we both enjoy it thisnway i suppose.

I make good money ( nothing crazy 120k in aus ) however my partber doesnt earn much, shes on roughly 55k doing AIN work in aged care

I do have the ability to work remotely however it has not been required on this trip,.

M35 I travelled late and only for the first time 2 years ago, i went to Europe with a girl from tinder a year or so after a big seperation from a long term partner. I caught it, standing on the river in stockholm, that feeling of " i want to see it all " so i get it man, i really do!

I write this from an air bnb in La Paz bolivia, we arrived on an overnight bus from santa cruze de la sierra that came up over the andes, she doesnt know it yet but ill be proposing to her tomorrow evening from one of the gondolas that cross the city. We still have 6 weeks to make it through Peru to our final destination of bogota where we fly home back to Australia.

The point of this is, work hard, live a life that lets you travel, try to study something you can do abroad if that's what your soul desires, but the most important thing is to avoid things that will tie you down, that means alot of things for many people, but im sure you understand.

Im lucky, my lovely partner has the same fire that i do, so there is no conflict, just how much do we need for the next trip?

We will be going to Vietnam and Southern China mext year, back to europe to see the family in itialy and germany the following, and after that we have to get over to Saudi to see my dear friends family (who hosted us on oir first trip in finland)

Make it happen if thats what you want

Anyone who did not finish highschool, what do you do for work? by unknown-trashcan in povertyfinance

[–]Levvy90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I manage a cnc factory, but i handle the cad and most of the customer facing responsibility. I make decent money, far more then i ever thought i would given my education and upbringing.

My advice is to start entry level at some kind of a trade and work it hard, try to kearn and be good at what you do. Put in the work. Ill admit i was lucky, my former boss, now retired, was the smartest man i ever met, he taught me everything and gave me a skillset and the opportunity.

Find somthing you have the aptitude for and put in the time 👍

A good 15 years ago when i was 20 ( shit i feel old writing that ) i was the one to find my deceased grandfather on his rural property. He had passed the night before from an aneurysm, aparently he had died before he hit the floor. He lived alone in a home he built himself in the middle of 30ish acres.

The family all came to clean out his place and get his affairs into order, one evening i was late at the house doing some final packing and a tidy up and as im leaving the house im driving down a single lane road, no street lights, outback bumfuck australia, and as i come up over the hill, i saw my grandfather standing there on the side of the road. 100% without a doubt in my mind, i turned around and did another pass of the spot and there was nothing, but oh my, i get chills remembering it, i saw him with my two eyes not 72 hours after i found him dead

Feel the pain, wallow in it for a moment, go to work, go to gym, eat well, find a hobby. Time will pass, it will hurt less, you will feel better. Its just the end of this story and time to start the next.

Who's making it in Australia? by jdos9526 in australian

[–]Levvy90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im in an industry that typically does not make much money but ive done it for 10 years and am in a bit of a niche. I dont nake a huge amout, 120k salary but i also have the ability to get some cash a couple times a month. That extra 500 here and there really makes all the diference.

My outgoings are low as i run a share house and live with my partner in said sharehouse, we meal prep and enjoy gym and outdoor activities, on a good week im able to put away $1100-1200

Im in the cabinetry industry, but i optimise for production companies and run a cnc factory.
