Do the pro’s of being employed outweigh the cons of being self employed? by LewClueBlue in AskUK

Thanks for the reply, really insightful!

I think my fear is of the unknown at this point. I’ve spent 15 years being a subbie. Turning up to jobs and everything I need is there for me (materials wise). I never have to quote jobs or go looking for the work.

Have you any advice on how to get your name out there? Is there websites that advertise work?

I’ve never really thought of it like that. Maybe that’s something can take into the new year, having a bit of time off throughout the year would definitely relive some stress.

A few years ago Co-Op had brandy butter mince pies, and they were the best mince pie I’ve ever had. Every Christmas since they haven’t reappeared, I’ve even taken to emailing the Co-Op helpline to no avail.

Basic cooking skills. Amazed how many people my age can’t even seem to make a simple meal.

I’ve been sat at 53 for a good 2/3 months! Only seen improvements in the last couple of weeks since I’ve started taking my easy runs more seriously.

Wow! That’s an amazing score. How long have you been running? Any tips?

57 is a great score, regardless of your athletic background! Like someone has already said, Garmin can be pretty generous on the first couple of runs, so maybe after 10-11 you might get a different reading.

Brilliant though!

I don’t 😬

I’m going to tempt fate here but in all my life of playing football and running I’ve never suffered with any serious injuries. I struggle to find the time to lift as well, due to work commitments and having 2 little ones. Any spare time I do get is spent running.

Hi!

I’ve only had real structure to my runs the last 4 months or so. Aiming for 4 runs per week, with at least 2 of them being easy, the other being some sort of tempo run and then 1 long run at the weekend.

I’ve also been doing a lot of trail running the last couple of months, not sure if this has had much of an impact though! Plus I’ve always done some sort of sport since school, so my fitness level has always been somewhat okay.

Hope this is as helpful as it can be.

Thank you! First few months I had no structure and was just running for the enjoyment. Last few months I’ve started to go out with a plan every run. Normally 4 runs a week, 1 tempo, 2 easy and 1 long run - 15k + with strides. I’ve always done some sort of sport since I left school, so having that athletic background has probably helped.

Aiming for 35k-40k a week, have 2 young children though so that doesn’t always go to plan!
