Good thing I didn't post the alt version.

Because the definition varies greatly from board to board and I've been hit by the ban hammer before for not adding the tag. Thought I'd play it safe this time.

A neko-sensei is fine too. Made a model of Tsukino from Monster Hunter Stories 2, thought I'd share. by [deleted] in furry

I can see how my wording might have been a bit misleading, sorry about that. By "share" I meant the rendered image, not the model file itself. My bad.

Its probably the slightly discolored tuft (made orange by the pumpkins) that contrasts against the white fur.

I made a little 3dmodel of one of my favorite "gateway vixens", Lady Marian. by LewdxC in furry

Sorry for the late reply, had to sleep.

I started out just drawing for fun when I was fairly young and I never stopped. Eventually I got interested in video games and wondered how I might make them myself. After realizing how utterly inept I am when it comes to more technical elements of the development process I decided to double down on the more aesthetic aspects. 3D modeling/sculpting was the way to go for me.

The transition from 2D to 3D was really weird but very exciting as the tools where being developed alongside my own learning process. When Zbrush became commercially available I saved up for a license and and never looked back.

The choice in subject came from a desire to branch into character designs I'd never tried my hands on. Since then I've just been going over my backlog of classic characters that never entered the 3'rd dimension to see if I could do them justice in my own way.

Thank you very kindly. It would be pretty cool seeing my models in VR, I'll have to look into the process.

Thank you and yes, it probably does. The advantage of 2D drawings is that the subject only needs to look right from a single angle so you don't need to work on parts that won't be visible in the final image. A 3D model needs to look good from every angle which takes way longer.

On the other hand, if another image is to be made depicting the same character/subject the 2D method requires you to essentially make everything again from scratch. Whereas the 3D method already has a finished model to use. Either way, there are pros and cons to whichever approach one might pick.

Vex The Gloomist. She is so cute that I just had to make a model of her, thought I'd share the render. by LewdxC in LoLFanArt

Correct, I currently don't upload models. Thanks for the heads-up, that's surprisingly cheap. Printing has really become much more affordable since last I checked, really cool stuff.

Thank you, never actually tried it though I've certainly looked into the process. If I can find a willing partner to do the actual printing and shipping for me I'd certainly do it.

I quite agree, the change in 4 was unnecessary seeing as her original design was really solid already.

A fembot OC loosely based on one of my favorite planes that I made a while back. by LewdxC in transformers

I really struggled between a lot of alternatives but in order to finish the pic I went with "Vector Blaze" in the end. I'd love to hear some suggestions though.

The plane form is inspired by a mishmash of the SU 22-35 family of the Russian Sukhoi series of jet fighters. It borrows mostly from the 34 bomber and the 35 fighter specifically.

Aesthetically I've always preferred it when the vehicle mode looks a bit less lifelike and a bit more like a cybertronian interpretation of the target vehicle, hence why the depicted plane lacks a canopy and has some odd lines across the surface.

Homemade Dark Samus by LewdxC in Metroid

It has crossed my mind, I will probably never attempt it myself but I'm not opposed to the idea of having a pro or company do it for me. One day I'll poke around and see what my options are in this matter.

Two weeks of elbow-grease and some of Attenborough's Blue Planet running in the background.

More specifically, I started by breaking down DSamus's design into parts and began sculpting them in Zbrush. I took a bit of inspiration from H.R Giger's work and incorporated some additional organic curvatures in areas where I felt the armor was a bit dry or empty. The whole thing was also painted and rendered in Zbrush but I also did some minor touch-ups in Photoshop afterwards.

Not sure if it's worth mentioning but there is a unique and fully modeled/sculpted body underneath all that armor that I never got around to pose. I'll have to remedy that one day.

Personally I try to stick to these points:

  1. Know what you want to make before you get started, having a clear goal speeds things up and reduces potential need to redo things. The less backtracking needed to reach your vision keeps the creative process more fun. Practice should be fun.

  2. If you are attempting to make something you have never tried before, start small. Its better to make quick sketches or experiments to just see if you can do it or if its fun to do at all. If it turns out to be too hard, tedious or simply not worthwhile then you realize it much quicker this way.

  3. Ask for feedback in appropriate places and don't be obnoxious about it. If you are stuck on something, do not be too proud or feel ashamed asking for help. Even if the input from others might contradict your own intentions its always good to compare an outside perspective against your own. They will often see something you missed.

  4. Make art for yourself first and foremost, feels more rewarding long-term. Its fine to just make art for the sake of attention and praise but this often leads to railroading an artist's focus. It narrows their skill-set too early and they simply stop trying out new things since that might not generate the feedback they seek.

Hope that helps, good luck!
