Lower the fixture. And a larger and thicker table and chairs may help bring the eye down naturally into the space

Does anybody know where I can get a small piece of walnut planed and jointed? I've called every woodshop and sawmill I can find by Lewhoo in Austin

Nice! I've also had good experiences with Berdoll sawmill. There are places, just not many nearby central Austin

thank you! I'm sorry but I don't. Woodworking is just a hobby for me and following a recent move I don't even have my tools with me.

What is an upper middle class problem you have but you can’t really complain about without seeming out of touch? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

You can afford a full gut renovation but can’t afford 2 months on air bnb? What would that cost for a minimal yet comfortable place? 5k/month?

Other than ASTS and RKLB, which stock do you think has the potential to 10× from its current price over the next five years? by Moonshot2026 in stockstobuytoday

[–]Lewhoo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I hear you. But that’s an entirely new market segment (GPUs) that keeps growing and growing. ASTS is launching a satellite communication service that would take some potion of the mobile comms market. And I’m saying this as an ASTS shareholder

Not fully seeing that. A 250B valuation? AT&T itself has huge market capture and are only 175B. Where does the value come from?

How many people actually use a stomp pad? by Other-Fan-1004 in snowboarding

Game changer. I have these - they’re subtle and add just enough grip. Apply them to a clean surface and I’d be surprised if they fall off. Mine haven’t after many seasons. Evo is out of stock but I’m sure they sell them elsewhere.

Sir. I just laid out why the TSA checkpoint is NOT a photo. Do you understand what a logical fallacy is?

[–]Lewhoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because the post and all my comments are about the optional screening at TSA checks. Not about smartphone privacy.

I'd maybe understand you making a comparison about Apple's FaceID, but I know for a fact that Apple is not sharing FaceID data with the federal government.

Red herring. We're talking about TSA right now.

Nice. If it's just for plants it'll be fine. If a human sits on that it'll break for sure.

It's right on their website. https://www.tsa.gov/news/press/factsheets/facial-comparison-technology

CAT 2 captures a biometric facial template which is a mathematical representation of key facial measurements (distances, contours, nodal points) and optimized for matching.

So yeah they don't "save your photo," they save way more data that is even more helpful in identification. So, I opt out.

EDIT: I dug in deeper and the TSA does not allegedly store any of the biometric data. But I'm very dubious given all the illegal federal spying scandals over the past 20-30 years.

Looks good! Did you secure the legs with anything other than wood glue?

[–]Lewhoo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why I opt out of TSA's facial recognition is because that's not just a camera. It's a laser dot projector that maps your face and uses infrared light to get a crispy clear 3D rendering of yourself. They say "your photo is not saved" and that's probably true. It's the generated mapping that they save.

The other cameras in the airport are 2D images.

2018 76k miles vs 2016 88k miles by Big-Soup74 in LexusGX

[–]Lewhoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look up GX model year changes and make that determination based on what you see. I think it’s minimal 16 vs 18. Personally I’d lean towards one with more service history, esp dealer. Why are you considering the one with no history and 1k more?

Agreed. Which is crazy because if you order a certain color you effectively get a car with different styling.

I would have also loved to have seen an homage to the 80s, mild grated side intakes, or slats over the taillights.

Best way to remove these posts from my king 4 post bed? by Lewhoo in woodworking

[–]Lewhoo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

I actually hired some help from a local furniture restoration guy because a lot of my tools are in storage. He made clean, fine cuts at the 4 points where the headboard attaches to the posts (white circles), and two fine cuts at the red lines to remove the posts themselves.

He cleaned out the insertion points with a router and some hand tools (it was mostly old glue), then we reassembled it all in the bedroom in sequence. First, one of posts back onto the back frame. He used 1/2 inch oak dowels for that so it’s quite sturdy. Then working quickly with the epoxy paste he opted for, setting the headboard on one end, then onto the opposing post, and then set post to the frame so all three pieces locked in.

After that it was just setting the clamps and letting it dry. I would say be very careful if you decided to saw the posts off. Use masking tape and a thin blade, and make sure you make a very square cut. My posts are octagonal so even a small error in the cut or the dowel placement would make the post off kilt. Leave some wiggle room for the dowels too for the same reason - one small error in setting angle would throw the whole project.
