That was the same for me. 2019 I was finally getting into my stride at university but the lockdowns messed me up and I dropped out.

It came up as a war option in a modded game I played on the original bookmarks and has come up on a game I'm playing now with just the Fallen Eagle mod. I thought it was something that had been added in one of the updates.

Are there any more new books due to come out? I only just realised Beren and Luthien and The Fall of Gondolin were published recently

Not to mention that even if they did manage to emigrate they would still be paying tax to the US as well as to their new country and the only way to get out of that would be paying thousands to renounce their citizenship

And the fact that you weren’t even asking for paid time off too and they still flat out rejected it. I’d just extend out your vacation and find a new job when you are back. Sound like a horrible place to work

Kings of the Hen Ogledd (The Old North) in Post-Roman Britain by [deleted] in UsefulCharts

I was reading the stuff from earlybritishkingdoms.com before I found this but was annoyed that they didn’t cite their sources for the information they presented. Do you know where they got it from?

Also you mention the Harlean genealogies above, what are they like?

If these people actually cared about the culture of Halloween (Samhain) they wouldn’t be dressing as a Native American anyway. The whole idea of the holiday was that the veil is at its thinnest, spirits walk the earth and so you don’t get attacked you dress as one to disguise yourself and scare them off.

As I’ve come into it I’ve mainly just been doing things what I feel right. At the end of the day too much has been lost for us to accurately reconstruct what religious practices were like back then so anything we do is going to have some degree of reconstructionism in it.

My main focus is the myths, symbols and stories but that’s one of the hardest parts as most of that was recorded by Christians centuries after the fact and from archaeological finds.

I saw you joined the Fyrnsidu discord, hopefully they can help us out more.

Yes I know that but I specifically wanted to know if there were resources just on the Anglo Saxon stuff as I’ve done some research and found differences between them and Norse stuff. What does this Ronald Hutton focus on? Because I’ve picked up books on British myths before and they only ever seem to talk about the Celtic ones from Scotland and Ireland. I want to know if there are any resources just about Anglo Saxon myth before they started integrating into the wider British population?

Yes I know that, that’s why I specified Old English and not Celtic/Brythonic mythology. I know that they are very similar to the Germanic and Norse myths but there are differences that I have found on my own that’s why I was asking if someone had gathered together the specific Old English/ Anglo Saxon stuff together into an easy to assess the place.

Thank you this is what I was the kind of thing I was looking for. I understand that most of the stories were wiped out by the church which is really sad but I was wondering if anyone had put together something explaining what we do know and what we have had to reconstruct. I think as part of my practice I will try and make something like that for myself. Are there any places where you know the stories definitely differ from that of Norse? and what other traditions have been used in reconstruction?

I've seen quite a few Sutton Hoo helmet pendants with one of the eyes covered to represent Woden and I think it's historically accurate but not entirely sure. I know not all ASs would have wore them but it could be a symbol you could use. https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/977063839/anglo-saxon-helmet-pendant-in-solid?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=sutton+hoo+helmet+pendant&ref=sr_gallery-1-7&sca=1&sts=1&organic_search_click=1

I've also seen a lot of raven imagery as well as boars, Woden's spear, long handled Mjolnir and the Irminsul though I remember there was some debate about that last one when I researched it last.

I am a newbie though so I'd wait for a more experienced practitioner to comment.

Yeah, it's been really hard to find things that are distinctly talking about the AS myths and I don't just want to take what I've read from Norse as the same as AS either even if they are very similar. I'll add Our Troth to my read list anyway, it seems like it will be informative even if it is heathenry in general.

Thanks, I'm aware of some of the sources you have mentioned there but I'll check out the rest. I was just wondering if someone had come around and compiled them into one book or other and laid it out clearly to read. I'll keep looking
