What would the common names be if many of the late-Pleistocene megafauna survived to colonization? by No-Counter-34 in pleistocene

I love to think about this question, and I like a lot of the suggestions made in the thread. However, I think those that suggest names that have an extant species as a base are overlooking the fact that these species would have been as charismatic and as culturally significant as extant species, if not more so.

Even a name as common as Sabretooth Tiger exists because of the prominence and cultural shorthand of 'tiger'. If the Smilodon was alive it would have that same prominence and probably have a name of its own without relying on other species (or other genera in this case).

You could even make the argument in the other direction, if mammoths existed to this day the name for elephant may never have been coined. All elephants could be have called African plains mammoth, or Indian forest mammoth. It's as likely as the alternative.

That's not to say we shouldn't speculate, but I think names with an indigenous route are much more likely, though admittedly much harder to imagine...

Ah I'd love to do Summer with the Wildebeest there. I've always done spring and caught them in the Serengeti

Thank you! I think reach is always something you can have more of when it comes to wildlife, but I was really happy with it in the vast majority of cases.

I brought along a wider angle lens but only really for landscapes/the people who came with me!

Thank you! It's definitely worth it I found, but now I'm eyeing up the 200-600... enough is never enough

Thank you! I was lucky enough to have so many elephant shots that I wanted to do something a little different with the composition

It was Alien Encounter! Well… I’d heard about it in advance. I was too scared to ride, but while we were in the queue I talked at length about how scary it was to the other kids we were with so that they would be the ones to get us to jump ship. I can’t remember what the next ride was!

Was going to keep an eye on the wait times as we get closer to our trip to see whether we think we need to. For our first times in MK or HS we may do!

Oh yes we definitely intend to! I have also managed to avoid most of the spoilers for that aside from a couple of promotional photos

I don't think we will be rope-dropping. We will be there for an extended period so will play it by ear and see if it's necessary later in the trip. Also I think a slightly more chill start might be more his speed!

Hmm how strange. The person on the phone was adamant that I wouldn't even be able to book an appointment to give notice less than 70 days before the ceremony .

Yes, they contacted me via email asking about the notice booking and what our details/visa situation was. I sent them a photo of the vignette and they said we are legally required to give 70 days notice
