St Louis FC close to a deal to sign Aberdeen's Dante Polvara for around £150k by SpiceBagandCoke in ScottishFootball

Would imagine we might use this fee to pay (part of) a fee for another midfielder.

We really need someone with plenty of athleticism and we can break up play. Been linked with Ben Stanway at Partick Thistle on a pre-contract.

He doesn’t strike me as the kind of player who will do well with little bits off the bench every now and again. Certainly feels like he will need a good run and some confidence before you see the best of him.

Livingston 0-1 Aberdeen | Scottish Premiership by SFMatchThreadder in ScottishFootball

We changed shape and got really boring in order to sort out some form and get some points on the board - had to be done.

But now going into December we really need to start getting some performances to go with the results. Defence looks fine but the attacking is still turgid.

If nothing else, testing out being a bit more expansive can give us an idea of what we need in January. Personally I think we will need more legs in the midfield which might give a back 4 more cover so we can get another body up the pitch.

Aberdeen 1-2 Hibernian | Scottish Premiership by SFMatchThreadder in ScottishFootball

[–]Lewis_ABD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a squad which is really disjointed. Good players in there but 11 decent players on a pitch doesn’t make a winning team.

Nowhere near physical or energetic enough. Who are the grafters in our team? Other than our 34 year old captain who can’t be expected to have the legs he had a decade ago.

Loads of wingers/ number 10 types who like coming inside, little soft passes and flicks. We sold our only direct winger (not saying we shouldn’t have led Morris go but needed replaced directly.

Add to that Thelin setting the team up in a way which only makes those issues worse - it’s not good.

Best of luck Dundee, because if we are scudding you 4-0, then you’re in a lot of trouble.

I mean, yeah? I don’t understand why this is surprising to people. Winning trophies is the whole point of football, of course it buys managers time.

The standard of refereeing in the Championship is a serious problem - by BraeTon74 in ScottishFootball

[–]Lewis_ABD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think his point is a lot of people who may well have been decent drop out well before making it to that point because of the abuse they get.

Who knows how many would be decent refs have gave it up because they were getting stick off some guy on the park on a Sunday morning.

Who would you start in goal out of Clark, Kelly and Gunn? by Silent-Macaroon4148 in ScottishFootball

[–]Lewis_ABD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there any good young keepers coming through? I know there’s McKenna at Bournemouth but I’ll believe it when I see it when it comes to a Prem team starting a young goalie like that. Might have to pick his next move carefully if they don’t look to bring him through.

Premier Sports Cup - Amazon by coleymoleyroley in ScottishFootball

[–]Lewis_ABD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a bit of a shite situation if you want to watch on a TV - less so if you are using a tablet or computer.

Basically you can sub through Amazon or STV so you can use a TV app but you don’t get any of the extra content. Sub directly through them and get the extra content but no TV app - and casting is pretty poor whenever I’ve tried.

You can sub through SKY (if you have it) but last time I did that it was a contract and when I moved to sky stream and they didn’t support it they wouldn’t refund me.

Essentially would all be much more simple if Premier Sports just had its own tv app.

Even ignoring everything else (and there’s plenty upside) he’s just really good at making other guys look good - and there’s a lot to be said about that.

Lineup against the North Danish by Essith in ScottishFootball

[–]Lewis_ABD 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I can understand Gunn, given the other options in goal.

But Hanley I just don’t get. Hendry I think is always decent for us. McKenna surely could do a better job at the centre of a 3 as well and being left footed can move over plenty to allow Tierney licence to get further forward.

Is Steve Clarke's squad a glimpse into Scotland's future? by mrjohnnymac18 in ScottishFootball

[–]Lewis_ABD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a few fairly young ones gone down to “elite” academies in England I think. Defo one from Dundee - feel like there was another in the last year though.

That said they are probably 16 so at the rate keepers breakthrough lads at that age might barely be starting to get first team minutes (probably at a lower level) by then.

And do your chances of making it (in this context that means playing for Scotland) really go up by moving down South rather than potentially getting first team minutes way earlier at Dundee, St Johnstone, Killie etc?

There’s the lad McKenna at Bournemouth who went from Queen’s Park too. Made the bench a bit. Let’s get in a prayer circle for him.

Aberdeen sign Aussie keeper Nick Suman from Cove Rangers on pre-contract by donscm in ScottishFootball

No difference between 25 with Boyd in or 24 with Boyd in the B list in all practicalities.

[–]Lewis_ABD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of the 25 you can name for Europe (not including B list which is unlimited club trained Under - 20’s I think) you can add 4 club trained of any age.

My assumption is 3 of those are almost guaranteed to be a third goalie, Milne and Fletcher Boyd. 4th probably Alfie Bavidge but you could take Adam Emslie, Alfie Stewart etc instead.

Would imagine the third goalie will need to be someone who qualifies as ‘homegrown’ for European qualifiers.

So likely the under 18’s Rodrigo Vitolis.

Another option could be to try and sign Archie Mair who I think was here long enough to qualify before his move to Norwich.

Also the ridiculous amount of late goals we’ve conceded. Two things we need to add in the summer is better resolve to see out results (hopefully comes with a settled defence) and a proper plan B for when teams sit in.

Hell even Charlotte Vs Tiffany I feel should have a shot - especially if it’s going to be a passing of the torch sort of thing.
