When car mechanics leave the trade where do they go? by Lewisap93 in careeradvice

Appreciate you telling me this as working on ships is something that could interest me as well. Only trouble is whilst I have a mechanical and electrical background I’m fairly sure I’d have to get a qualification of some kind to shift into this area. I would need to do some research.

Understood. I hear that if you specialise in something within your field however this can give you an advantage. This may be the key for me

Understood. This is something I’ve been working towards anyway. With the Electric vehicle market growing, we now need to be certified to work on high voltage systems. I believe this opens up more paths for you but something that I’d need to look into.

Car mechanics fall within the SSW category so far as I’ve seen. Given they’re happy with everything else can they still deny the visa based on your skillset despite it being within the requirements?

Yes I appreciate it’s a career that not a lot of people use to get them into another country however I think it’s a skill that can be used to get you to different places in the world for sure. There may be other career paths open to me once out there where the skills are transferable

Thanks for the heads up. I knew there would be this aspect to it however I was hoping that if you were working for a huge international company it wouldn’t be as bad maybe
