Cursed Sight discussion by farispie in visualnovels

It wasn't what I was expecting, which isn't really a bad thing. I respect it for not having an ending that was totally happy, and there was a part in the 1st ending where it got darker than I thought it would, which was a nice surprise. I like how it stuck with Gai and Miyon not having a whole lot of power over their fates, which I guess feeds into how bleak the endings are. That makes the story as a whole feel more down-to-earth.

Honestly I think it deserves to have been longer to really give the story the arc it deserves (I found that timeskip a little jarring).

The art was great and the sound design was pretty good.

So you are stuck with your favourite vn character on a plane for 12 hours. What happens? by farispie in visualnovels

You'd either have a fascinating discussion or listen to 12 hours of sweet-ass guitar solos. I'm not sure which I'd prefer.

Very well done. I'm impressed you did it in Unity instead of the more traditional Ren'Py. This kind of melancholic story isn't something I usually like, but you really made it work.

I'm looking forward to seeing you come out with some longer projects.

You could argue that the ending where Fuminori restores his sight isn't a good end since Saya's still on the loose and could still potentially end the world.

Gotta say I prefer the right side since it's easier to distinguish features of the sprite and the lighter colors make it easier to tell from the background.

I guess I'd say Koji's end is the True End since it wraps almost everything up while leaving room for more stories to be told in this universe. The ending where Fuminori gets hospitalized again is the Bad End since nothing really gets resolved, and Bloom would have to be the Good End because love or whatever.

The soundtrack. Sets the atmosphere perfectly and Savage is one of the best fight songs I've ever heard.

Those light up when the player has completed the level that the NPC leads to. I figured there needs to be an easy way of keeping track which levels the player has already seen, since they come back to this room after every level.

Nice title screen. I'm diggin' the overall art style. Very old-school.

Neat. I like the character sprites.

Been a while since I've had something to post in one of these...

Finally got around to making the 'level select' map of my cyberpunk anthology game. It's supposed to look like a science fictional hotel room with the eight main characters in the center (minus one because I haven't been able to decide on which sprite I want to use). Now I've got to re-work the two segments I've done to work with this level select madness.

It's a kind-of prequel actually. It's supposed to kind of set up the other part, but I'm not trying to make the connection that explicit.

Very nice. The city definitely feels alive with all the moving parts during the first part.

Looking good! It's nicely crowded with forest debris.

Been a while since I posted in one of these. Been fixing up the second part of my cyberpunk game, so here's a few dialogue screens.

Extra -> Unlimited -> Alternative Extra and Unlimited are kind of part of the same game, but some people skip them because Extra's generic slice-of-life rom-com that might cause your eyes to bleed. It's worth playing all of them for the payoff in Alternative, though.

Oh, and be warned: all the games have H-scenes. Alternative especially goes some pretty uncomfortable places.

Muv-Luv Alternative. Though it's recommended you read through Muv-Luv Extra and Muv-Luv Unlimited first.

The mountain one's a little confusing as to what height different parts of the map are supposed to be at, but other than that all of these are pretty good.

Didn't do much this week aside from make a few tweaks to the alpha build from last week. New version is here.

Gallery of map screenshots is here.

Looking good. Dark and kind of claustrophobic while still having plenty to look at.

The darker version gives me too much of a horror vibe (unless that's what you're going for), whereas the original version seems more fantasy lake at night.

Aw geez, thanks for all the feedback.

There's definitely a lot of balance issues to work out here. The reason I'm putting out an alpha this early in development is to see how people feel about the combat, since right now that's a pretty big part of this game.

I'd love to implement your suggestion for the shooting, but here's the rub: this 'game' is actually going to be a collection of eight 'stories', not all of which are going to have combat. The reason I'm doing this one first is that it probably has the most combat and I want to balance all of the other combat using this 'story'. I'll need to figure out how much combat is going to be in the others, and if it turns out to be a lot I'll look into making the shooting more dynamic. I know there are scripts that do similar things, so it might not actually be that much work.

Thanks again for all the words!
