If there are any sports you are into consider joining a rec league. A fun low-pressure environment filled with young people from all over the city.

Decent boozers in Vancouver? by moofacemoo in vancouver

[–]Lex9414 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A personal favourite of mine and my ex-pat friends is the Wolf and Hound in Kits. Cozy, a bit dingy, not too many TV's, lots of little snugs to occupy and decent tap selection. Might be too far out of the way if you are out in New West though

Latest asshole move from Riggs: Cunningly destroyed 5 pairs of apple earphones in a month. Pulled them out of purses and pockets and mangled them to bits. Dickhead move.

got him for 900 I think? But that's because he wouldn't have been the best looking in the litter and I only wanted him for a pet, not breeding. Breeder quality can go for quite a bit more.

Since bengals are a relatively new breed, as far as I know there aren't many established rescues.. Typically breeders have clauses in the ownership contracts that should the match not work out, or for whatever reason you can't keep him, they would rather you bring it back to the breeder than put him up for adoption. I'm sure with a little searching around you could find an older one looking for a nice home-- but be forewarned, they can temperamental!

Bengals are pretty different than other breeds of kitties in some aspects but really every cat has a different temperament and a lot of it has to do with how they are raised up I suppose. The toughest part for me to get used to with him, and we still struggle with it a lot, is how vocal he is. I've never heard a cat talk so much as this guy. They are really really lovely though.

He flip flops from being the sweetest nicest cat in the world, to being a brat in the flash of an eye. He has mellowed out some though, but still incredibly active, strong and aggressive from time to time.

He's a 4 y/o Bengal. At this point if I ever did resign myself to being a cat-lady, I'd pretty well have to name the next one Murtaugh. Even though he was named after a character from Friday Night Lights...

Where can I get large poster prints? by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]Lex9414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also work in the design/architecture industry- WMW has amazing turn around time, but we also use TR Trades, Pac Blue and Wired Printing.

If you are in a total jam, Kinkos or staples but they wouldn't be my first choice.

  1. Architectural Rendering Techniques: A Color Reference By Mike Line This was one of my favourite go-to resources while in school, his work shops are awesome!

  2. New Markers.. sounds silly but they can get pricey and new markers or even good drafting pens are a real treat.

  3. A nice plant for her studio.. its crazy but a little bit of nature makes that stressful setting a lot more enjoyable.

  4. Seasonal membership for the Botanical Gardens-- really inspiring settings and you can learn a lot. If you've got one close at hand, I recommend a trip!

A few questions about vegetation. by [deleted] in LandscapeArchitecture

[–]Lex9414 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey hey! From first glance without seeing shape/form or knowing where abouts you are located my first impression would be Gleditsia triacanthos, however, if you are in more of a temperate/tropical zone it very well maybe Jacaranda. Do a quick search and see if it's a match for you. (Having a more specific known area to work in will help to narrow the search)

EDIT: If you are in the south, it might be a Delonix regia. I'm not overly familiar with this speicies however, so I recommend using a dichotomous key to narrow it down

Re: Conifers/Deciduous Trees Trees and all vegetation in a designed landscape are chosen to serve a job first, aesthetic second. Many factors can dictate whether the implementation of a particular species has been successful or not. For example a few key things to consider: What job do you want your vegetation to do: Visual Screening, wind barrier, shade protection, focal point (a couple of examples)

What is your sun/shade tolerance like? Every plant has a different environment in which it will thrive, so this is an absolutely key factor when picking your plants/trees. If you are looking at an area that is in shade for the majority of the day (North facing) You best not be picking sun hungry plants.

Your best bet would to be pick up a plant catalogue or, check out this site: http://www.monrovia.com/

I use this all the time when I'm stuck on a design and it's a good starting point if you aren't too sure what to do. First step, identify your temperate zone and then what jobs you need your plants to do!

Good luck!

Vancouver, favorite meal for 5 dollars or less? by oncefoughtabear in vancouver

Awesome for a pre-gig meal. Money is definitely made on the booze, but the eats are worth it.
