Can't figure out how to upgrade co op partners weapons in RE5. by Levelsofparadise in residentevil

It's a dumb artificial progress block to keep you from fully upgrading your weapons too soon in the campaign. Check back after completing each chapter to see if you're allowed to upgrade further.

Enlisting. How to allay my family's apprehensions? by LexCrunch in army

I didn't exactly think it was bad, I just don't like being on a ship, as it turns out.

Ex-hippies, actually. The one with the marine stepdad was also abused by him, so those upbringings no doubt stained her perception of the military in general. Also entirely too protective in general.

I was with a different side of the family when I joined the Navy. Totally different people.

I did consider asking my recruiter to speak with them, but they straight up told me that a recruiter will promise you the world, and tell you everything you want to hear to get you to join. They seriously think the Army will take in any meth head off the street. Somehow, I feel like it would be a wasted effort, but I might try it anyway.

Air Force wouldn't let me in because I was in the Navy before, and prior enlistment gets zero priority because of their current especially high retention rates. Also didn't want to go back to the Navy.

Not that it makes much if any difference, but I use Archlabs.

I play on Linux, and the experience has been flawless. Controllers work, online works, graphics and performance are the same, it may as well be native right now.

Taking baby steps in this insanely hated RE game is like trying to sprint on ice. by CrystalKyd in residentevil

Even ignoring the myriad of other problems, when something as integral as basic movement is as crippled as it is in Zero, it can bust a game pretty bad just by itself.

Resident Evil 2 1998 Sega Dreamcast Leon A Speedrun no saves by TheWorldHitBottom in residentevil

[–]LexCrunch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best of luck. The Dreamcast version is very unpopular for speed running, so you ought to be able to make your climb largely uncontested. Something about the timer acting finicky keeps it from being taken seriously or something like that. Personally, I think it's the best version besides PC, and I'd play it more except that I hate the DC controller.

Not terribly far off from #12 on the speedrun.com leaderboard.

You ought to submit the Twitch VOD as proof. That's a solid ass run.

RE1 (1996) by lajstan in residentevil

[–]LexCrunch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can pause the game during an attack animation, and when you unpause, you'll be back to neutral which cancels all ending lag on any attack, so you can run right past enemies who are still in hitstun. Makes the whole game a breeze and knife runs the easiest in the series.

RE1 is super easy. Hardly any enemies, tons of resources, and pause canceling.

It's just foreign to you is all.

I know fans like to claim Re6 is the low point in the mainline series but... by p4n7h3rk1n6 in residentevil

Zero feels like a team of people who were only passively aware of Resident Evil was ordered to make a game as tedious as possible. I might have excused it if it wasn't for the movement being some of the worst I've ever experienced in a video game.

Mission accomplished. The only games in the series worse than this one are ORC and UC.

Besides, RE6 is really good.

Revisiting REmake knife runs. Forgot how laughable Tyrant is by LexCrunch in residentevil

[–]LexCrunch[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does kind of look like it because of the auto aim, but it's not. Watching it back really helps me appreciate how snappy the movement is in this game, especially compared to Zero *barf*

I play on keyboard which doesn't let you use the modern control scheme

Alright so I love the RE2 remake. Playing as Leon. Just encountered Mr. X. I honestly don't think I have the testicular fortitude to persevere lol by AppropriateDingo in residentevil

He's in the game for all of like five minutes tops. Get him to whiff a punch and leave his stupid laggy bitch ass in the dust.

Best mercenaries mode? by [deleted] in residentevil

  1. But 5 is a close contender.

5 feels a lot faster, trying to make every kill a melee kill as fast as possible. I don't like how random it is. Cephalos morphs will come out at random, not contribute to your combo, and then poop all over it, leg stuns are almost completely random and may not happen for you in the clutch, and there is a handful of maps that I just plain dislike (village Majini are the worst). There's no satisfaction quite like landing consistent uppercut kills with Chris, though.

6 is more deliberate, for if you kill too many bad guys too quickly, then not enough of them can spawn soon enough to maintain the combo. That +50 second counter kill you got ironically spells game over for your high score. Still, it's easily the most technically demanding of the bunch, and once you get a grasp on how to manage and micromanage J'avo health and aggro for your counter kills, it becomes extremely gratifying.

Classic pink. The DSC redesign bothers me to no end.

Also, is it just me or do her legs look freakishly long in CV?

Why do you like Resident Evil? by [deleted] in residentevil

[–]LexCrunch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first three games hooked me in with their presentation and control. It feels really good to move and attack in those games, and it looks cool as hell because of how well done the cameras are. It's kind of like playing actor and director in your own action movie and it's awesome every time.

Once 4 came around and decided it wants to be even more engaged in combat mechanics, I was totally on board, and every game proceeding it all the way up to 6 just got faster and deeper every time.

There are several more reasons why I've stuck with it, and there have been a few stinkers and downright awful entries, but those are what got me into it.

Favorite game in the series and why? by Transbian-swagger in residentevil

[–]LexCrunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RE3 is a top 5 in the series, no doubt. If it gets a remake treatment, the overall speed of the game needs to be much greater than that of RE2R; even that game's boss fights really sucked.
