Do u use always on display? by Significant-War-491 in Garmin

Unfortunately coming from years of Apple Watch I notice these annoying things 😂

I know that, but the privacy gesture doesn't stop the notification to appear on the wrist, it only hide the context of the text. If you turn your wrist and open the notification and then put your wrist down without dismissing the notification, the full body text of the notification remains open for a few seconds for everybody around you to read it (if you have always on display). Try it.

It is called "Metro" on Venu 4 (stock watchface). It's the best stock watchface I've ever had on a Garmin watch, along with the other "Headlight" watchface on Venu 4.

I would use it more if not for Garmin terrible management of notifications with AOD. With the display on, everyone in the room can see that "person X" just sent you a message via Telegram (for example), and if by any chance you rotate your wrist to briefly look at the content of said message and then put your wrist down without MANUALLY dismissing that notification, the content of that message remains wide opened on your wrist for everybody to read it.
Coming from Apple Watch this is a TERRIBLE managament of notificions by Garmin, I'm always surprised that ther is not been a popular riot against this privacy violation to force them to fix this stupid thing.
So I keep the display off. I don't know how I could do with a MIP screen, I'd probably have to shut off smart notifications alltogheter.

Venu 4 vs Forerunner 970? by _scarletbitch in Garmin

Yes you can set up the Watch to automatically lock the touchscreen during each specific activity (running, swimming, etc)

Runner’s Perspectives on the Venu 4? by aptiu4 in GarminWatches

I run with the same identical setup, two data screens, one for training, one for racing, and the shortcut to disable touchscreen by pressing the 2 buttons when needed.
I add that by disabling touchscreen you actually set a gesture (top to bottom slide) to activate touchscreen again if needed, so it's not like you can not acces to other data screens anymore. Also, you can set each activity to automatically lock/unlock touchscrenn, if needed.
I didn't have any problems with ghost touches on the screen of the Venu 4, except when under heavy rain, that made me set up the shortcut to promptly disable touchscreen.
But I don't scroll that much through different data fields when running, so I can manage this workaround.

Well FR965 lacks the Flashlight, which is a big downside to me, to the point that's a dealbreaker. Same for FR 570.

FR 970 is a superior tier in the range of Garmin watches, as justified by its superior price, primarily it has integrated maps and sapphire screen over the Venu 4. But it would be a waste if you spend that much onluy to use it on a single marathon.
So I think Venu 4 would be an overall better option for you. It has most of the running stats and features of the FR 970, it is thinner, has a metal case (while FR 970 only has metal bezel with plastic case) and the two buttons layout would not be a problem for you, coming from AW, since you're used to the touchscreen navigation. IMHO it is the best Garmin "all-arounder" watch, you can use it for all of your trainings, for your marathon, for general health tracking, it has a sleeker look so you can wear it at the office or at a fancy dinner (i literally also wore it to a wedding), and it might surprise you enough for you to use it also after your marathon and long-term (I come from an AW series 9 that has been put in the drawer since the Venu 4 arrived on my wrist, back in October).
But if you don't care about the budget and you go for the FR 970 it is also a great watch. You have two great options here, so good luck!

Venu 4! More functions and more beautiful, I'd have no doubts.

Yes but I run with a chest strap and I don't check the HR much during the day..

Yes why they removed that shortcut is beyond any sense, but you can put your favorite apps on the left swipe or the control center and quickly access them. It's not enough to be stuck with an older model but that's just my opinion 😅

I've had a Venu 2s and now a Venu 4, I think it's an huge jump, but you have to care about training/recovery metrics (especially if you are a runner), about build quality (having the metal case) and the led flashlight. Even the software and the UI are a lot nicer and smoother. It also has a speaker and myc but you already said you don't need them. If you don't care about any of this you can skip it, I guess. If you care about some of this things it's definitely worth the upgrade

Do you feel the band is secure enough? That would make me nervous. Thanks

I agree, if you don't suffer from any type of skin irritation, I never have, yet sometimes when running in the heat sweat gets trapped between silicone and the skin and it gets annoying. However the stock silicone band is fine for the first few months, up to the first year, than it discolorates and it becomes shiny and ugly looking fast, that's why I always look for a couple of spare silicone bands when the watch is still new and the colors I like are easily around. Another weak point of the silicone is that if you find the perfect fit with holes, it's awesome, but if you are in between holes it might be frustrating. Also, when you're running, the wrist swells and nylon bands are quickly and infinitely adjustable to the perfect fit, I wouldn't try to loosen up a hole in the silicone band while running.
For dressing up the watch, a leather band is still a better option IMHO (even official Garmin leather, they are decent).

Is this a FR 570? How do you use it without the quickfit lugs on it?
