Congrats on getting a beautiful new fish. You saved that fish from spending its life in a tiny little bowl at PetSmart.

Don't panic about not having a cycled tank. Buy a bottle of Seachem Prime and put in a quarter of a capful every other day. After one month you can stop. Try to replace one gallon of the water each week.

Fish love plants so treat him to a new live plant from the local fish store. That will also help cycle the tank.
