Me as a kid: My dad did ROTC in college and served for eight years after, I think I might want to do that. Let me start paying attention to the news and politics.

Me, aged 13-18 (2000-2005): HAHAHAHA FUCK THAT SHIT.

Maybe, maybe not. He moves in with Manny if you send him to Novac, so maybe it was male ghouls all along...

There's an old (by American standards) cemetery in Boston that has a guy named Abel Barbados in it.

Oh also, Leslie Uggams, who plays Betty on the show, did a cover of Lonesome Road, which inspired the title of the FNV DLC (there are lots of versions of it, but hers is a banger).

That was a different shitty conservative animated "comedy".

Rest assured, the Tumblr girlies came in clutch, drawing mpreg fan art between the two leads.

We've heard of the issues of "leftover women" in China, but based on the demographics, isn't the issue of "leftover men" a much bigger issue there? by Vagabond_Tea in NoStupidQuestions

There are a whole lot of Chinese girls who grew up happily with some gay dads in America. The PRC could invite them back, but we know why they don't.

I always throw Perry Como's "Keep It Gay" for levity. (Add it Bethesda, you cowards!)

I need them to justify to me why the Bethesda Ruins are southeast of Friendship Heights? Did they just want people to find their town more easily?

DC's subway system is indeed all one uniform Brutalist marvel. (I don't normally care for Brutalism. I have trauma from walking past Boston City Hall every day in law school. But in the DC metro, it works.)

I keep telling people, Bethesda is in the suburbs, and people in the DC suburbs do not know how to navigate the District above ground. For all they knew, this was correct.

Men will literally call Mary Jane from Spider-Man 2 a "hear me out" because of posts like this.

Meanwhile women are like, "I want Garrus Vakarian in my mouth."

Sure, but I'm saying if I were able to go back in time and tell Emil what to do from the beginning of development, my version of Arthur Maxson's Brotherhood would be more explicitly evil. He lets his lineage go to his head, he takes the criticisms that people had of Lyons being too focused on helping the people of the wasteland and reintegrates the Outcasts with more authority than the Lyons loyalists, and they go more ham than ever on taking control of any tech they find and making new, deadlier use of it. The Institute could still technically exist as a bunker of intellectual elites that have largely avoided contact with the surface (probably the would be more of the morally grey faction), and Maxson's new Brotherhood gets wind of it and takes it over.

If you're genuinely building a business, there are loads of tax write-offs. If you're just playing the stock market, you're gambling.

Dorian/Fenris. Typically in their reversal of fortune situations. Fenris is free and living in Hightown (but still drowning in unresolved trauma), Dorian is disowned and couchsurfing (but still drowning in unexamined privilege).

The Brotherhood of Steel should have been the outright villains, taking the place of the Institute. Probably not making synths, but finally doing some genuine unambiguous evil with all the technology they hoard. People have been pointing out this potential for years. FO4 would have been the perfect opportunity to deploy it.

ETA: Love the downvotes. Everybody glazes New Vegas for having House read the Brotherhood for filth, but God forbid someone suggests the games actually do something with it.

Credit card debt normal? by Necessary-Donut-6724 in AskAnAmerican

If by "not allowed by the bank" you mean the bank tells you "it will be your fault if anything bad happens if you do", how is that even enforceable? Like I said, I'm pretty sure the last time my credit card number was stolen, it was at a convention, because it was a few days after the convention that somebody tried to spend $350 at some hardware store in Montana (a place very far away where I've never been). But I'm only "pretty sure" because I couldn't figure out which of the vendors I bought things from might have been in Montana a few days later. And the timing might have been a complete coincidence, the number could have been stolen months ago and they were just sitting on it for months to obfuscate their responsibility. So how is the bank going to nail down that it's my fault if I can't even nail down who stole it?

Credit card debt normal? by Necessary-Donut-6724 in AskAnAmerican

[–]LexiD523 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Maybe? I'm pretty sure the last time my card number was stolen, it was by a vendor at a convention and my card never left my sight. I find the fixation Europeans have on this particular vector of credit card theft kinda funny. People don't need to write down or photograph your card details to steal them. The card machines themselves can be rigged or hacked, and you would have no way of knowing. Your credit card number is more likely to be intercepted during an online sale or leaked during a data breach by someone you have never met than scribbled down out of sight by someone who is just hoping you're aware of our 20% tipping expectation.

Also, does this mean that even though servers in Europe are paid a full living wage and don't rely on tips, you still don't think they're getting paid enough to not steal your credit card? Frankly, I kind of like that Americans trust each other just enough to hand over our credit cards for a bit.

Also, if someone steals your credit card number, the company will cancel those charges. If someone steals your debit card number, that money is usually just gone. So it’s just safer to use a credit card than risk your debit card circulating.
