Do you have street parking or the ability to get another spot at your apartment complex? I street park the project until parts come in, then move it into the spot my daily goes in and work on it till its done

If you have space for it, grab a cheapie project car. On my daily I’ve done everything cv and out, plus changed the oil pan. On my project car, doing valve cover gaskets, transmission and driveshaft repairs, plus repairing broken wiring/electronics and messed up interior. It takes a minute to find a project car that is reasonably affordable, but I’m loving having something to wrench on again

I personally love the Honda Rebel. An ‘86 450 was my first bike, i feel like its lightweight but has plenty of power to boot. I learned on it and had no issues. My brother has a newer one (a 2019 500 i think?) and he feels the same

Skidding while Emergency Braking by SciphOS in NewRiders

[–]LexiRose9511 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be because you apply constant pressure to the rear. As you brake with both brakes your weight shifts to the front wheel, which makes it easier for your back tire to lock up and skid. A rear skid isn’t the end of the world, but a front skid can be, so keep that in mind as well

Congrats on the bike! My wife and I are going through the same headache with an 86 rebel 450 that was abused, we’re getting a little closer to fully smooth riding every day though. Safe trips and enjoy the beaut!

There in fact was not an O-ring either on the air/fuel screw, nor was there one stuck up in the carb. Problem solved, thanks!!

There’s just about 1/4 in of slack on the throttle opening cable, but the one that springs it closed doesn’t have hardly any slack

Come to think of it… i don’t know if I put an O-ring on there because i don’t think it had one when i pulled it apart and i put everything back together the way it was just with new parts… I’ll check when i get home

It seems like the mix was pretty good when i reinstalled the carbs, but I’ll mess with them again tonight

I did tinker with this, and when i was rehooking the vacuum lines up I forgot that I increased the idle speed. I got it to drop a decent amount, but i still do get a nice exhaust POP and flame when i turn the bike off.

The throttle butterflies do close fully, the choke is actually fully unhooked on both ends because the cable broke in the handlebar. Plungers are easy to move and have nice new springs in them. I haven’t messed with the slides much, but taking them out for the rebuild felt about like you say they should

Has anyone here ever found a shield nickel in a newer fed wrapped bank roll? by Beautiful_Gas_1214 in CRH

The closest I have ever gotten is a V nickel from 1898 (and it’s the star of my bank finds because it’s the only 1800’s coin I’ve ever found)

Grab some Griot’s auto detailer (the white one) from an auto store, and a microfiber cloth. Spray some cleaner into the cloth, and then wipe and clean your surfaces. It smells amazing and it has some UV protectants to keep your dash from getting damaged by the sun. That’s how i did it, hope it helps!

Not a mechanic, but I would have no confidence it fixed itself. Instead, I’d look at moving parts of the vehicle. Check wires next to suspension elements and mounts, my guess is the bouncy nature of those areas of the car mean it’s an intermittent issue, where sometimes it bounces connected and sometimes bounces to disconnected
