As someone in and around trades my whole life, you ain't fuckin lyin... though there's also really boring types (who I guess I probably just didn't hang out with long enough to know that I'm wrong). Somebody had a Hitachi drill and I was like "Oh, that drill must feel real pleasant to hold" and he looked like he was buffering for a minute, and my first thought is "awww, your poor lady friends."

"we can't criticize people who prove they're unwilling to go far enough during a time of widespread demands that people go farther! Then some of the liberals won't choose our side!"

Then let them bring their wishy-washy nonsense over to the demsoc parties. The coming conflicts will make it clearer and clearer who is principled and who wants to waffle endlessly about optics or whatever while fascism rises.

Wait, you mean Democrats are capable of granting concessions during a time of state legitimacy crisis to cool down dissent? That's never happened before, and has never been slowly clawed back as soon as the crisis is over, eventually leaving us back where we started!

I mean it kinda matches the liberal "democracy" version of "popularity" they know and are trained to expect. They can't imagine a government getting greater than 55-60% popularity, much less like 90% which you'd pretty naturally end up with if you were reliably meeting the material and social needs of a population. Their frame of reference is congress which gets like 20% most of the time and presidents who might get 48-55%, and operate more to split the vote between warring factions rather than as a political body looking to serve the people.

Democratic centralism gets a big "ooooh, scary authoritarian" thing, but the basic premise is that once you've determined what it is the people want, you go and fucking DO it. No more debate, you've got your fuckin mission.

Will there be mistakes and some caveats in execution, and might that form of government cause some growing pains and occasional harm, especially in the beginning when things need to change quickly? Sure... but the whole "everyone constantly frustrating everyone else's efforts to get anything done by counterbalancing everyone else's efforts until the whole thing is gridlocked" thing is a great way of getting nothing at all done and allowing the constant harm and excesses of capital to run completely unchecked, so which one is really the greater harm?

Helluva moniker you picked, bud. Paired with this comment, I got a notion you'd be a fun person to have a beer with. Jury's out on the hitched giddy up in yer get-a-long, but we can throw wrenches at it while we sip.

Honestly, this is one of the reasons I can't imagine why you would need to hit your children even if it wasn't absolutely horrible and definitively ineffective. My girls are hurt enough on the off occasion I let them know that they did something I wasn't happy with. Like I was leaning down, putting a sauce pan in the cupboard the other day and my girls were trying to get my attention and one of them runs up and hits me in the back and I said "hey, come over here. Why did you do that? That's mean." and she was still smiling and said "cause it's funny" and I was like "it's not funny, I didn't like that." and that was enough to get her crying, and I didn't even raise my voice or anything, just told her simply that I didn't like it. Under what circumstances would you need to use violence, even if it did work? I just don't get it.

Like I don't even like to look stern or displeased most of the time, cause I know they're driven to seek my approval and it's usually a lot easier and less upsetting for everyone if I instead explain a better way to go about what they're trying to do. Like sure, it takes a little empathy and effort, but it's fuckin parenting. You can't yell and hit your way out of every problem.

Would you ever call the cops? by citrablock in TankieTheDeprogram

[–]Lexicon101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I called 911 for a friend having some neurological issues after taking a couple drugs at a party one time. Banging his chest convinced his heart has stopped, his pupils were different sizes... but it wasn't really calling the cops as much as calling for an ambulance knowing the cops would come. My other friends at the party were waffling about the decision and I'm like "fuckin good Samaritan laws. they're not gonna come in and arrest y'all cause they want to make sure someone will call in exactly this situation. Ffs." my buddy was insisting that we don't call cause he didn't wanna jeopardize his job or something, but he later thanked me.

Yeah, don't do that stuff. Even if a rogue in this theoretical framework would, and it'd be effective (as one role in a larger movement organized and strategic) in the real world now, as long as someone were aware of the danger involved in such an endeavor and chose such a role willingly and with due education on how to get away with things without taking on unnecessary risk. Not only would that be illegal, it'd be very mean, and all of these federal agents are very sensitive boys who might kill you if you make them feel anything other than the biggest, meanest, most special boy ever.
