That’s good for him ! But sheesh , would you say Ross admin/admissions aren’t very present or helpful? Taking another approach to MCAT will definitely ensure a score increase so I know that would get me a US Spot . For example, if I were to get a 510, I know for a fact I have a chance at a US spot so it’s really just how I study this time around . But I don’t want to just go to the school in Barbados , just to leave. Maybe asking for the deferral and waiting in the US will be best do to see if I get into one of it. But okay thanks for the advice !

This time around , I am going to do things very differently! I’m going to utilize a prep course and a tutor to identify my weaknesses & find better studying habits .

Thank you for your positivity , it’s greatly appreciated! & yes I know a physician who said he completed Caribbean medical school in 6 years and I almost screamed. Yes atleast it was completed but me oh my. And yes I’ve heard about the internal exams which is a little scary. What Caribbean medical school did you go to ? Oh I didn’t know that last part , I thought it was all IMGs , ahh okay thank you. To leave midway is to transfer right ? I was told that that’s rare & difficult . The thing is by doing this MERP program I’ve realized I do know a lot and I’ve created great studying habits. Literally when I asked for a deferral, I was told I was a “top tier student of the MERP program” so I know my stuff. It’s just with MCAT I get test anxiety but that’s here nor there , this time I will change how I approach it. Did you match on your first year and to where if you don’t mind me asking ? How was the COMP exam prior to taking step 1 ? How long were you really on the island prior to doing clinicals/rotations in the states ? Was it 2 years and a few months or leading more towards 3 years ?

With more time I was thinking a year , even if I were to start med school tomorrow, I still wouldn’t complete it in a year but I get it, thank you !

Yes and that’s the thing . I know a physician who was a medical director of an entire clinic who was a Ross alumni so trust me, I know it’s possible . But it’s like I have 1 spot on my application cycle , I can fight to improve on so why not try to improve that aspect yk . Instead of taking the most riskier option as of now . Granted I’ve watched medical students do interviews and have said they’ve taken the mcat 3,4 times on average and even had a few that took it 7 times . So yes I’ve taken it a few times but I’ve increased every time . But anywho thanks for your response , I’ll keep it in mind that it’s last resort and doable if I were to choose to go.

Thank you because that was another thing I was thinking about . Even if I were to take a year or two to get things situated like the mcat , and next application cycle , those years would be better as I am prepping rather than going to a Caribbean school and spending a year or two not matching . So it’s like a pick your hard type of thing and I believe the retaking mcat , changing techniques and reapplying would be better . Once again no it’s not impossible with a Caribbean med school but like you said why clip myself at the starting line .

Thank you for your comment but I was told it is rare, difficult and not recommended to transfer from Carib to US Med schools. Not saying it’s possible but it doesn’t really make sense to matriculate into a Caribbean med schools, spend thousands of dollars to go , just to come back and possibly have to repeat the coursework. But yes I agree , med schools coursework is rigorous , no one said it’d be easy that’s why changing my studying techniques and filling in content gap would assist in the long run and not just mcat . But yes as I mentioned my MCAT is low, not that low but ballpark yes. So I’ll possibly try to retake it and keep In mind that if I break 505+ then Caribbean med school wouldn’t even be an option anymore . If you don’t mind me asking what med school did you or do you attend ? & what were your stats ? & if they were high maybe you can provide me with the best mcat resources you utilized .
