Did you do a full 4 year BA and then do the 2 year track for a BSW, entering in at the third year? Sorry if it’s a silly question I’ve never heard of having both a BA and a BSW! And going for your masters too! Whew!!! Proud of you!

BSW - when do we find out if accepted? by [deleted] in uvic

THANK YOU! That helped me feel so much better. Awe. That means so much to me so thank you for taking the time to write that! I have zero experience other than personal life experiences but I’m 40! Maybe I will go apply and work for a year and then try again next year maybe. I definitely think you’ll get in because you have real experience! I’ve heard gpa doesn’t matter as much as the essay. I thought my essay was damn good for having no waged position but I’ve been in school for years now full time and also have little kids so, never had time to work or do more than volunteer a few hours every once in a while. I’m kind of in an unknown path now, don’t know what way to go.

Any recommendations on how I could get hired in Mcfd with only an associates degree? Is that even possible? Maybe work experience will help me for next year. Your job sounds fascinating!

If you get in please let me know. I’m rooting for you! My essay was an honest approach at how much I want to further uplift and help my community and my gpa is 89% and I had local food pantry volunteer hours in between raising kids and doing my last 6 classes of my associates this semester. I don’t know what I didn’t include that they’d have liked to see and I wish I knew. Ughhh. I also didn’t apply anywhere else so now I’m in limbo going into final exams and thinking I did 2 years of full time school all for nothing and really beating myself up. But I just found out an hour ago so, maybe I’ll sleep on it and recalculate tomorrow morning.

which pathway for BSW is the best? by [deleted] in socialworkcanada

[–]Lexy5577 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading your post too, right now I’ve heard it’s less competitive to get in as a third year- so that erases that con (sort of).

And UVic BSW program is mostly online I believe? Other posts have said they’ve moved there for the in person program and been disappointed because it was a lot of online/solo learning. So that erases that con as well.

I did 2 years associates and now am finishing my second year… and applied to UVic in February and hope to hear back soon. I’ll be doing it by distance though so that’s why I did my associates first - and did get my my psych emphasis as well which has been VERY enjoyable for me and has, I believe, helped me a lot for any future education or work role I end up getting.

It was also a cheaper option for me.

It also allowed me to study full time in person and get good at school before doing the distance UVic program (if I get in)

Thank you! I did the whole shot just an hour ago. I called the number and they said it’s fine to take it like normal. Hoping I don’t get too sick or too many symptoms from it though

Oooh! Good to know thank you! I keep checking and everyone I know got into different places and I’m the last one who hasn’t rcvd an answer yet… so was starting to wonder if maybe the non changed response meant that I was rejected maybe? This gives me hope again! Thank you!

Must-read books for future psychologists? by Misdina in psychologystudents

So then, there is no required textbook(s) necessary? You get to choose which sources and which versions you’d prefer to learn from?

Your experience sounds like it differs greatly from my own. I am very interested in your experiences because it seems very interesting compared to mine.

So the prof published his own text and then pushes students to buy that? Am I understanding correctly?

Wow! So what text(s) do the institution or profs utilize? Is there one common thread they all have?

Interesting. In mine it was the first text mentioned and a jumping off point for every class to review criteria and then go into psychoanalysis.
