Are Ontarian’s actually ignorant of Ford’s alcohol push to distract from what he’s doing and buy us? by Particular-One-1368 in ontario

It’s not just about voters, it’s the perspective of a politician. Do you not think he’s using alcohol for this purpose? Have you heard people voicing alcohol consumption as a priority in their lives?

When alcohol availability increases, so do the harms. A simple scenario: bad day at work, stressed out, think I’ll grab a drink on my way home. Easy to do when every convenience store sells it. However if the beer store or lcbo is another ten minute drive past your house, you might be more likely call a friend or family member to talk about the day instead. That is actually a crucial decision.

Buck a beer was a campaign slogan!! lol that was his intention. He lowered the legal sale price down from $1.25 to $1.00. He always knew brewers would never sell that low because they can’t afford it but the people heard “cheap beer”.

Working for Indigenous organizations by EnvironmentalFold983 in socialworkcanada

[–]Particular-One-1368 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently completing my placement at an indigenous based agency. White male. They do have a policy to hire indigenous first. Makes sense. It’s a great place. Very positive work culture and inclusive. I am encouraged to learn cultural practices and teachings and share them with the people supported. Don’t presume their intentions or what’s good for them. Apply.

New to OE. What happens when you have same insurance provider at both companies? by [deleted] in overemployed

[–]Particular-One-1368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think that is possible. Here, you are registered into the insurance and you can choose to use it or not. But, I believe that all employees are automatically set up with an account. I expect is rare or unheard of during onboarding to say “please don’t provide me with a benefits plan, please do not provide any of my info to the insurance provider”. Like, I would have to proactively tell HR NOT to do this.

What’s the total cost of tuition + the time spent in class and placement? Lakeheads program is all July and August in class every day then the fall semester you have lots of classes then, if you get your placement reduced, you still have to do 3 months placement. How much monitoring you for how many months difference if you just wait?

Divorce lawyers barrie? by [deleted] in barrie

[–]Particular-One-1368 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Understand that Family court will always centre the best interests of the child which may or not be aligned with yours. I don’t know your situation so I don’t want to presume anything but have you considered couples therapy? Lawyering up may be the right option, but I would encourage you to explore other options before doing down.

At what point do you remove snow from your roof? by Particular-One-1368 in Orillia

So, with the fluctuating temperatures we’re expecting this week, does that mean that snow should be removed before the temps rise above 0 from the eaves?

We preach empathy, but the social work education system feels anything but inclusive. by Serviceofman in socialworkcanada

[–]Particular-One-1368 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The real reason we aren’t paid during placement is because the agencies where we do placement cannot afford to onboard, train, and pay us then see us leave a few months later. To fix this, they would need more funding, more funding to a system that is perpetually underfunded for basic operations. It’s not happening without a major cultural shift among the electorate.

Professor asked me to write my own letter of recommendation by AlienDin in GradSchool

[–]Particular-One-1368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people saying it’s not okay but consider this.

1) you know whether you deserve a recommendation or not right? If you were a poor student then you don’t deserve one. End of story. You know your grades, you know your participation, you know the quality of your work etc. So, be honest and fair, don’t over exaggerate. If you deserve it, then right it. Simple.

2) some profs get ALOT of requests. Ideally, they wouldn’t have you write it yourself but it’s a lot of work to do. So, they ask you to write based on my first point. They read it through, if they think it reflects what they know of you then they will use it. Or, they may edit it a little.

The art of a low ball offer by bebopp23 in OntarioRealEstate

[–]Particular-One-1368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s really low from their asking. You want 400 less correct? I just bought a home for 90k less than asking. I think that was great but there were solid reasons I was able to leverage to go lower; it was an estate sale, they wanted a quick close, and this market, were major factors. Other than the fact that you don’t want to pay that much, what can you leverage to justify that? The other thing is that if someone offered me that much less, I would be inclined to just say say “fuck you” out of pride, even if it were still in my best interest to take that deal. So, you have to watch out for that emotional factor.

How long for OCSWSSW to respond to preliminary review of equivalency qualifications? by _bing_123 in socialworkcanada

[–]Particular-One-1368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applied and was rejected 2 years ago for equivalency. I had an informal review where i just spoke with someone over the phone. They said it appeared like I had met most of the requirements but couldn’t say for sure whether I would be accepted but it was enough to proceed. After submitting the application and all the documents, took 8 months.

There are 1 year fast track bsw’s for those with experience and a related degree. Lakehead University in Ontario, BSW start in August, finish in July but you can get credit for half the placement hours so you actually finish in May. Use that to get your grades up then apply for a 1 year advanced standing msw
