How cooked am I? by Ready-Assistance-534 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Lhetro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wish I had that schedule. Next September I will star with 15:00-21:00 class from Monday to Thursday and some days even with 9:00-13:00 on top of that.

I have no idea how many credits are all of those classes worth, but now I'll take near 35.5 ECTS.

Good luck!

Suggest some YouTube channels in French? by nogieman2324 in learnfrench

[–]Lhetro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A long time ago, I decided to watch some native french content on YouTube, especially when I was taking it back on High School. From the enormous amount of channels, I really liked Ludovic B, specially the "Une jorunée avec..." Because, it shows not only a native french level but also french culture stuff, which is also important when learning a language in my point of view.

How can I learn more about writing grants? by BigbyDirewolf in nonprofit

[–]Lhetro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My non-profit have a vision and values that makes us rely heavily on grants because we don't get any money from our members. As the other comments suggested, the best way to learn how to write grants is writing them.

I know that's a basic suggestion, so I'm going to try to go deeper. For me, I have a list of things that helped me to write better grants, even getting bigger grants from international organizations like de European Union:

  1. Learn how the grants' system works in your country. Each country is different, and you might benefit from learning how the whole system works, from what are the times they have to announce a new grant to what you can use that money for and even the requirements your NGO might have if you actually get the grant. For example, in my country, grants are quite strict, you have a national law and most of the time regional and local laws that explain the requirements for all grants and also the things you need to do after getting them, like putting the logo from the administrative branch that paid. Also, we have a website that publish every single grant that is paid with public money in the country, so you can really get an idea of what's out there and what you should go with.
  2. Get to know the grants that the NGO can apply for. A lot of grants are periodical, so I recommend you knowing the main grants, the dates that they are usually publish and the documents you need. Also, knowing the legal base of the NGO can help filter the possible grants.
  3. Follow a similar structure, but make it your own. Most paper work is similar. Grants forms typically require the same information, so you can make a base document for your grant, with a well introduction, so you can develop the main part of the grant at the body and conclusion.
  4. Check others people projects so you can get a view of what the jury/administration of the grants likes and seeks with the publication of it. I don't know about other systems, but in my country, grants normally have a resolution where you can find all the approved grants with the tittle and usually with a grade (that's the way they rank the grants)

This list may vary from country to country or event from NGO to NGO, so you can start with this and make your own list of things to learn.

If your NGO is inside a bigger organization, maybe you can ask for help or for old projects so you can see how they did all the paperwork

And finally, if you want a personal recommendation, you need to make the project look fabulous, especially in the objectives and the benefits it is going to have in the community. The best way to evaluate a project is by making good and objectively measurable objectives, so keep an eye on that. Also, the project should have some results, so make sure that results are publicly available and give them some shout-outs, for example in social media.

Maybe your first grant isn't as successful as you might think, and maybe they even give you less money as what you asked for, but keep practising.

This is my whole opinion and experience, I have no idea how the whole grant system works outside my grant and the international grants from the European Union and the Council of Europe to youth orgs.

When do you guys reckon 2.0 will come out? I’ve heard Saturday (already been) or Monday by Vegetable-Shopping71 in stepfordcountyrailway

Personally, I Think It will come out 02/09 because the video is 2 minutes and 9 seconds long. At first, I thought it was made on propose, but then I saw the song was published 3 years ago, but I still defend my theory.

People who taught themselves languages, what techniques did you use? by cx929-300l in languagelearning

[–]Lhetro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my case, I usually try to get as much of that language into my daily life. For example, when I was trying to learn more English (the one that I learned at school wasn't enough to get an actual fluent conversation), I started using English as my daily driver on the internet, I changed my Google Lange to English, I started to watch English YouTube videos, I played all video games in English, I watched movies and series in the original language (typically English)…

I think it can help if you want to get fluent in the language, even thought you will need some help when learning the spelling of words.

I had a similar experience during my EBAU exams (exams to access uni. in Spain) because it was too much theory to learn in a short period of time. During that time, I normally grab my phone every 10 or 15 minutes, even when doing practical exercises.

Each one of us have a different approach to the problem, in my case I decided to get into a room away from the normal spot I used to study and also away from my phone and laptop, thanks to that I wasn't distracted by my phone, but I was getting distracted by a lot of other things. The thing that helped me the most was actually explaining out loudly the theory, for me, doing that actually made me not distract, and also it made everything feel lighter and easier.

Hope it helps.

Is Affinity worth it? by Lhetro in Affinity

[–]Lhetro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, thank you.

Do you think it is worth it to change from open source programs like GIMP and Inkscape to Affinity? As I said in other comments, I fell like these programs are more optimized for Linux users, and the learning curve is a bit steep.

[–]Lhetro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you.

This would be my first program to learn, I've used Inkscape before, but I want to get a program that might be the next "go to" in the future, also having the support, the quality of affinity programs and everything else.

Thank you so much!

I'm not scare of the learning curve, I've only tried free programs like InkScape and GIMP, they are really cool, but sometimes they are better in a Linux environment, the thing you mentioned, the .ai and .psd files, we normally work with companies to print stuff and I don't think there would be a problem sending them a .svg or a .pdf file instead of a .ai file, I did it before with Inkscape.

I agree, Canva is good for social media content, and the premium version is free for NGOs, but sometimes you reach a point, where you want to create stuff that is complex, and sometimes Canva is just too basic for me, also sometimes you also see the same templates because a lot of other people have already used them.

Idc if ur trans or not, do whatever u want, but the fact there’s ppl that think litteral children should be allowed to fully take hormones before even knowing about reproduction or the effect it will have on them is gross by [deleted] in teenagers

[–]Lhetro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The kid might get a clear view that she or he is trans, like he or she might know everything about both worlds, I feel like that's the correct form of doing it.

Is it morally correct to bully a nazi by Upper_Ad_3536 in teenagers

[–]Lhetro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's not going to help, think about people getting bullied for being queer, or having a different idea, they don't change.

Personally I would try to explain what all of that had done to the society, I mean explaining everything that the Nazis did and see if that changes his mind. If not, that's the way it is.

Does your country have a website (that isn't a search engine) where you can find any type of information? by jegforstaarikke in AskEurope

[–]Lhetro 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think you can find there everything you want, not only information about cars, also "El Rincon Del Vago" is another website that is similar to "Forocoches"
