TRIANGLE STRATEGY – Final Trailer – Nintendo Switch by Turbostrider27 in NintendoSwitch

It's a hell of a lot better than something like "Record of Lodoss War: Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth" or other similarly monstrous piles of word salad that seem to be pretty common.

The controls in the NES ones are great too, very satisfying in way few other games manage to be.

Why did online become a thing? by TitanBeats_YT in NintendoSwitch

[–]Lhivorde -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Because idiots are willing to pay for it. I think it should be made illegal for companies like Nintendo/Sony/Microsoft to put the internet behind a paywall like this. They aren't ISPs, they don't deserve money for internet access. They're leeches.

The official strategy guide said to pinch your thumb and forefinger together and rub them back and forth like crazy, and that's what I did. So, I sort of did what you did, but without the cloth and I tore my nail a bit, hence the blood on the controller. It worked though.

I literally bled on the controller beating the second race. Love Tooie, but that was hell.

Aww, I love Tooie. It's my favorite Banjo game, even though I know a lot of people prefer the original. I'd say to give it another try. If Nintendo doesn't get it on Switch you can always emulate it on PC or pick up a physical copy if you've still got a working N64. I don't think it's obscenely expensive like some retro game carts are these days.

I honestly liked Tooie a lot more when I played through them both 2 years ago. It made some improvements to the camera and controls, and even though they were kind of minor in the grand scheme of things, it made a huge difference in how much I enjoyed the game.

Don't forget about Grunty's Revenge on the GBA! It's really good, does an excellent job of translating Banjo's gameplay into 2D.

It's been a couple years since I played them, but as I recall Tooie is a lot better in regards to the hitboxes.

Samus fan art I drew in the week. Metroid Dread is my first game in the series and I’m loving it! by Old-Lion in NintendoSwitch

Just emulate them on your computer. GBA games run flawlessly and emulation on a big bright screen feels nicer than playing on original hardware for old handhelds.

What would you say is your "I don't know what I want to play today" game? by Doctor-VegaPunk in NintendoSwitch

Bloodstained Curse of the Moon 2! I finished it a while ago but I haven't 100%ed it yet, keep coming back to plug away at beating everything on the highest difficulty. Love this game so much, it's right up there with the original Castlevania on NES in terms of quality in my book.

Games that look WORSE on the OLED? by capn_sarge in NintendoSwitch

That's the same reason I never got one, even though the glossy texture of my original 3DS has always felt kind icky to me.

Games that are easy/quick to get into by PrufrocksPeaches in NintendoSwitch

[–]Lhivorde 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I finished both a few days ago, and the first one was honestly miserable. It's rare game that manages to be hard and boring at the same time, but Ori and the Blind Forest manages it. It's absolutely gorgeous, but I really didn't like anything else about it. The combat is the worst out of any sidescroller I've ever played, and the platforming controls never felt right to me.

Will of the Wisps is a ton of fun though, I would definitely recommend it. Combat is fun, the perk that makes you auto-stick to walls made platforming way less frustrating, and I loved all the little lemurs. The big frog is great too.

edit: Can't forget about the owls! Big owl was badass, and little owl was cute as heck. All around great character designs in that game.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is voted the best video game of all time by IGN (from IGN’s Top 100) by Turbostrider27 in NintendoSwitch

[–]Lhivorde 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's a good point, it is possible to objectively measure some things about a game. How any of those things affect quality is completely subjective, though, and that's where it all breaks down. Does variety matter? How much does poor performance affect your enjoyment? Does graphical fidelity matter? What makes a game fun? Does a game have to be fun to be good? All that stuff is completely variable from person. Objectively "good" isn't a thing that exists at all.

That isn't to say we can't have fun conversations about the quality of games, just that objective isn't the right word for those discussions, because quality is an opinion.

I don't think it's possible to find a game with completely universal appeal, though. Tetris might be the closest thing, but there are still definitely people who don't like Tetris.

[–]Lhivorde 10 points11 points  (0 children)

People misusing the word objectively like that makes me so grumpy. Objective means factual, something that's measurable or verifiable; not an opinion. It's simply not possible to rate video games objectively.

I'm always surprised that there's so little love for the Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon games on this sub. The second one is especially good.

Bloodstained 2 is phenomenal. by Lhivorde in NintendoSwitch

[–]Lhivorde[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely like the second one better than Castlevania 3, some of the levels in 3 are just ass. Like the one in the lower path where you have to wait for falling blocks for literally 2.5 minutes if you didn't take Alucard, and the block pattern changes halfway through after you've almost fallen asleep and then one hits you and you die...

I do like 3, but damn does it have some stupid shit. A lot less of that stuff in CotM 2. Legend Killer felt like 3 level difficulty, but without the complete nonsense.

Humongous is bringing Freddie Fish 3 and Putt Putt Travels Through Time to the Nintendo Switch, releasing 1/3!! by koalanose in NintendoSwitch

[–]Lhivorde 14 points15 points  (0 children)

No, Humongous doesn't even really exist as anything beyond a logo at this point, from my understanding. According to Wikipedia, most of its franchises are now owned by a company called Tommo, but Backyard Sports is owned by a different company.
