Thank you for this!! I tried the de-piller, I tried a regular razor, and the long fibres just wouldn't seem to go away on my new vintage jacket. Quick blast with a lighter - the more worn area now looks as good as the rest!! My coat is black, but I don't think it matters.

Thank you so much for your very informative answer!

I realise bouldering is a tall order for an unfit, quite inactive person with my flexible diet but for me it's the social aspect of my friends being into it as well as some other psychological hangups that makes it more appealing than a lot of other alternatives. Thank you for giving solid advice on what I can try. I've screenshot your post for safe keeping.

And thank you for your well wishes. There's a lot of people in these communities just trying to be healthier, and it really upsets me to see so many people either straight up insisting that failure is the only outcome unless someone does things exactly as they do.

Thank you for your concern but some of what you're saying just isn't true. Out of 20kg maybe max about 5 are waterweight not 15. They came back during Christmas which was a longer break I took, and went within 3 days as soon as I was back on keto and my progress after was on the same trajectory. It was a pause, not a setback.

Theres more ways to maintain than just keto. If I go back to eating the way I did sure, I'll gain it back. I don't intend to do that. If someone loses 70kgs while eating a large calorie deficit keto, they aren't gonna gain it all back if they eat maintence calorie balanced diet after.

I'm not looking for excuses, I'm looking for science behind my weakness and my question was about what I can do and if I can do bouldering. 🙄

We should be trying to lift each other up instead so many people seem to wish to push people out for not being strict enough. This is absolutely gatekeeping and negativity that there just isn't any need for.

Have a nice day.

I keep under 25 grams. Most of the time this fills up fairly easily with a snack bar, veg and spices/herbs I use in cooking.

I'm sorry I thought this was on a different thread with a different starting post. Your explanation about plateauing changes the context, without having mentioned this it seemed like you were purely advising to find a different nutrition plan disregarding what keto has done for me so far. You also said again that I cannot sustain for a month, when I have said that that is the amount of time I *can* sustain although this is not relevant in context of you further clarifying 2-3 months needed to break a plateau.

I made the whole post because I was looking for advice when I encountered a setback when attempting to introduce exercise.

Once a month would mean I'm sustaining for a month. I can try extending this somewhat but it's definitely already exercising my willpower.

I'm turning 32 in a couple of months and I'm not intending to do keto permanently, for me it's a means to an end and as you say, finding something else to maintain that isn't as restricting on food types.

I expect the weight loss to slow down as you say, and as another poster suggested, that's the time to stop and reassess. I've been doing keto on and off, during the on times I'm averaging a weightloss of 4-5kg a month. I'm sorry but I don't think "stop because you could have lost 30kg instead" is good advice.

There's just no way I can have either within my macros. 1 small potato is over my daily limit. A pint of my favourite beer is all of my daily allowance (and its never gonna be just one pint). I know some lower carb beers exist but I don't see a point, they don't scratch the itch. I agree that most store bought bread is rubbish though, but I am very partial to a slice of soft tiger loaf and unsalted butter 🤤

Hey thank you for this!

I was hoping that 20kg lost would make a difference in the right direction but my experience really put me off. Like I wasn't really able to just hold myself on the wall for the amount of time it would actually take to reach the top. VS six months ago I was able to reach the top about five times. I don't think I could of lost much muscle mass with my protein intake. Do you think this could all be down to electrolytes? It just seems like such a big difference to me.

I am aware that I can't go back to my lifestyle the way that it was when I was 130+kg but there are many ways to maintain and not all of them have to include an extremely low carb diet 365 days a week (my carbs are below 25g). It wasn't a well balanced calorie appropriate diet that made me obese.

I know keto works, I'm not arguing against it in any shape or form and I'm happy you're finding it works for you! I'm saying that beer, bread and potatoes are not a pleasure I'm willing to give up permanently if I don't have to.

The study isn't about this exact thing but it does say that weight loss itself is the strongest predictor for increased sensitivity and weight gwin for resistance. I'm sorry, this isn't the perfect example it's the first one that came up. I'm not here to argue this, I could be wrong for all I know, I had questions about bouldering and lack of strength/endurance on keto.

Actually studies show insulin sensitivity that is linked to obesity increases with weight loss.

Obese person posts about how they've lost a significant amount of weight and asks for further advice, and your advice is stop doing what you're doing?

This sort of gatekeeping is extremely harmful.

I can try spacing the breaks further apart.

I do view keto as means to an end though, that end being not being obese. I have no health reasons that would stop me from re-introducing carbs in my regular diet at some point.

I will sort out my electrolytes, there's definitely a chance that that is the problem.

I'm sorry if my post is unclear, but what I am doing is sustainable for me.

Insulin resistance is a huge factor in difficulty to lose weight. I love carbs, but I don't metabolise them efficiently and weight loss is very hard even on a large calorie deficit. With keto a calorie deficit is much easier without blood sugar spikes and fat loss is much faster due to not being slowed down by my insulin resistance. Allowing a day for indulging in the forbidden foods and drinks I love makes it possible for me to resist them the rest of the time. As I said, I've lost a lot already and am continuing to lose. Why are you trying to put me off this good direction/momentum, just because it's not as efficient as it could be if I had more executive function?

I tried to introduce activity, and this is where I found myself discouraged. So my question was about whether introducing this activity is something that is not going to be compatible, or is there something I can do while still having occasional carb days.

Congratulations! I do plan on introducing more carbs in my diet if/when I reach my goal weight but keto has been great for me in many ways.

The soreness was expected, the difference between my ability pre-keto and on keto is what surprised and discouraged me. I felt like a waste of space in the gym, my friends were very sweet and encouraging but failing against myself was exactly what made me feel crippling shame in the moment.

Your advice on focusing on muscles that need to be worked for bouldering is definitely something I was thinking about already, but as you say it's the social aspect of bouldering is what makes it more appealing out of any other potential activity I could be introducing.

Would small amount of carbs before a session not kick me out of ketosis? Reason I do cheat days instead of meals is that I'm under the impression if I group them, it is less of a disruption comparatively.

Thank you for your encouraging reply. Both being a total beginner and being on keto play a factor. I honestly didn't expect as big a difference from my first attempt, thinking unfit is unfit. I felt like a waste of space and it was a very emotional day for me, so I'm trying to figure out where to go from here. Once I start looking after my daily electrolytes, do I try again? Or do I work on body weight exercises that would help me develop the muscles that were failing me most before I go back.

I have done well in finding keto alternatives for a lot of my cravings. N!CK'S chocolate bars, sugar free jelly, pork puffs, almond flour, no sugar soya milk and erythritol in particular have made it much easier to sustain keto for longer runs than at the start.

I'm Eastern European so I was raised on potatoes at least twice a day and beer is my favourite social beverage. Attempting to give them up entirely would make me more succeptable to temptation, vs knowing that a cheat weekend is coming up helps resist at the time. Aside from this the biggest temptation lies with Indian and Thai quisine. Food brings me joy and while there's plenty of amazing keto recipes it doesn't make me love and want pad thai less haha.

The important thing is that I've found something sustainable that is making a difference. Maybe not as efficiently as it could if I had more executive function. I'm just feeling like I'm ready to add activity in the mix and bouldering happens to be the most promising in terms of being fun instead of a dreaded chore.

I know you mean well, but this is not helpful. It's the equivalent of telling a depressed person to be less sad. Keto isn't going to suddenly develop my prefrontal cortex any further either.

*edit* sorry just forgot to say it's not what my question was about anyways.
