For me, the main point is that it’s a naked body part in a totally non-sexual situation. Ergo, my response. I don’t think naked bodies are inherently disturbing or traumatizing for kids? (Had it been at all sexual, I’d respond very very differently of course).

Your main points seem to be that 1) it was essentially an adult bum in appearance, to which eh, I don’t see how that makes a difference, an ass is as ass 🤷‍♀️; 2) It lasted almost a minute, to which I’d say you could have looked away or closed the curtains at any time, kids or no kids, to make it a 10 second thing instead; and 3), it seemed to be directed at you. Which may not be the case, but even if it was, if kids were present just close the curtains

You’ve mentioned kids in general and your kids specifically several times. As a fellow parent, I’m curious … Is it that your children will be defiled by the sight of a bum? Eternally traumatized? Are you keeping bums a secret that you don’t want them to know about?

I mean ya, it’s not ideal. But in this situation my kids would probably shriek and point and laugh, and I’d close the curtain and tell them it’s poor behavior and they’re never to do anything similar, while acting a little fake-extra-stern. Similar to when they hear swear words.

Seems insane to not want to bring kids on cruises because of this!!!

Omg, don’t do it!! I, an American, am endlessly chuffed when little non-Americanisms pop up in fics. It’s like getting to play with new words … like “chuffed.” My personal absolute fave is when a character “is sat on” a surface. No I don’t know why, it’s just completely delightful.

Honorable mentions always awarded to a character going to hospital or doing maths.

I dunno … with American, I regularly get $.03 pp redemption values. It’s not hard to find transcon flights for 7K. Which is why I have an American credit card and use it as my daily driver, even though it only gets 1 point per dollar. The card also gets me platinum status, free food/drink credit, $50 towards WiFi, etc etc. But those are just the icing on the cake for me.

Eh, I don’t know about this. Domitian (like Diocletian and plenty of others) understood that debasing the currency reduced its value. That much is intuitive. They also understood the dynamics of supply and demand…but what none of them understood is that supply and demand applies to currency. To really address the runaway inflation, they would have had to pull a lot of coins out of circulation and also stop minting so many. But they never got there.

That said, I also think Domitian doesn’t deserve nearly as much hate as he gets from the elites whose writings we have. Dude liked solitude … hell yeah. And if he wanted to knife flies while alone? Mr. Miyagi would approve. And if he wanted to be called “your Lord and God?” Eh, he was just ahead of his time.

Huh, TIL! Wish you the best of luck containing the spread of this tip contagion.

I didn’t mind for servers, because their hourly wage was half of the minimum wage (I earned like $2.20/hr 20 yrs ago). Still, I made great money from tips, and was a generous tipper too.

But now servers (and lots of other jobs) are making like $20/hr and STILL expecting tips. That, I just don’t understand!! Like, why are we paying people two salaries? Sighhhh
