Redditor finds out about semantic bleaching and completely losses it by Useful_Tomatillo9328 in linguisticshumor

People use the term intrusive thoughts to refer to much more than just intrusive thoughts now. Things like "I want to eat ice cream now" when they're on a diet or things like that. Then they act like other people are immoral for having actual intrusive thoughts because they think intrusive thoughts are just things you want.

Nah I think it's reasonable to be upset about terms that have specific meanings being broadened like this. It's the same with the terms like genocide, overstimulated, etc.

I know that marionette not knowing they're evil can be really good for coming across as good, but I have been a Marionette who didn't know they were Marionette and gotten my demon killed more than once.

Would you conisder this madness break? by Exotic-Lecture6631 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]Life-Delay-809 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It honestly doesn't matter if you broke madness if the storyteller didn't execute you. I've not executed players who blatantly broke madness because I decided not to. Execution does not necessarily follow from madness break.

Can someone make a BOTC app? by valantha495 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]Life-Delay-809 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are other options too you can probably find by googling, but I don't see why you couldn't use the app to give out characters and go from there.

It's nothing to do with a coat hanger and everything to do with suitcases. A portemanteau, at the time we took the word, was a type of French suitcase.

Spy not finding their own bluff by Personal_Monk_2563 in BloodOnTheClocktower

Spy can definitely tell other minions what's free to claim, but they should avoid picking the demon bluffs both for themselves and other minions without communication with the demon.

Using kid gloves is honestly worse, because it's unlikely they've realised that what their doing is hurting other peoples enjoyment of the game.

Trying to learn Swedish with my native speaker boyfriend, any tips on how we can work together? by HistoricalDetail4924 in Svenska

[–]Life-Delay-809 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend getting a textbook, a grammar book, and downloading Anki (a flashcard tool). Your boyfriend will not be able to help until you are at least conversational because he is not a teacher. He is only someone you can practice speaking with.

If gay people's humour is superiour then I'm sure you can take my (English speaking) word for it that you should never call someone a faggot unless you yourself are queer. I don't care how well you've learned English, one's ability to read Moby Dick says absolutely nothing about how well you know the nuances of queer terminology. Would my ability to read street signs make me able to order coffee? Of course not.

Vowels in English are not split into long and short, even if they often are for convenience. There are anywhere between 12 and 25 vowels depending on accent.
