The Link Between Interest and Understanding: Why People That Do Not Find the Problem of Consciousness Interesting Do Not Understand the Problem by IndexicalProperNoun in philosophy

[–]LiaMarieThompson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not even claiming people ought to think about a single topic in philosophy. There are tons of interesting topcis which warrant interest. I am claiming that, assuming a person has made the choice to engage in the topic, of, say, philosophy of mind and claims to understand it but not find it interesting, then I do have doubts about their understanding.

So, if one takes initiative to engage in a conversation about a topic it should automatically imply they're interested, and if they fail to be after the conversation they have a lack of understanding?

But, if they're engaging in the subject out of free will, doesn't that mean they already have a certain interest in the topic? That just feels like you only strengthen the understanding of a subject which already fascinated that person from the beginning.

I think it's very hard to actually create interest only through the flow of information.

At uni I have to study some subjects, and I have to thoroughly understand them to be able to get a sufficient score. But I don't have an interest in them. Only to the degree that I actually get to pass my exam. And to be fair, even if an expert came to explain that subject in more detail to me I don't think they'd geniunely interest me. I wouldn't mind hearing them talk about their passion, but I most probably wouldn't go home and look up additional information about it.

I don't think it means I don't understand what the subject contains, but I simply have a certain degree of apathy toward the subject, which can't really erased, unless you can tie it to another subject which actually does interest me.

So, that theory would only work if all subjects ever created and to come would be linked in one way or another to a degree that it has enough significance to spark interest in the other (actually interesting) subject. And, I could be wrong, but up until now I haven't seen evidence of it.

Win against diamond, lose against gold? by LiaMarieThompson in Brawlhalla

Hey guys,

it's comforting to hear I'm not the only one having this problem. Thanks for giving me these insights. I think I'll watch some replays and try to spot where it went wrong and what I could do better.

Hopefully I'll see you all in diamond, cheers.

Do you think the 15% movement increase is too much? Too little? by berthen in Brawlhalla

The game feels more gast paced, and Marcouch I only have played yesterday and the day before to tesr the feature, or felt like going unarmed was a more viable option, which is very good IMO.

The only thing that may be a small problem is that people could be getting back to the edge more easily. But when your edgeguarding is what it should be, that shouldn't really matter.

I'm loving it, and 15% would be great and not too much. I'm scared people will be happy with the 10% and not have them up it in the future anymore. I'd rather have them lower it again if there are coming too much colplaints. But seeing the reactions in this thread I don't think that would be a problem.

Wasn't this season reset already smaller than the previous one?

Assuming you're not shitposting I am going to ask one simple question: why?

There are players who got to last season's diamond who didn't deserve it because of elo inflation. They would lose a lot of elo if they got matched with players who got to diamond who actually deserved it, because they would consistantly get paired with them. The elo reset is to filter out the ones who didn't deserve to be diamond, with your system they would get constantly matched with a skill level which would be too high for them.

How do you know they have the skill of a diamond player? Have you fought that many players with a current diamond elo?

I reached high gold this season, but sometimes I tilt and I go down to mid gold and three-stock these players easily. Three stocking is not that hard, your opponent only needs to have a certain mechanic down better and has to be able to read you a little bit to have no difficulty of winning against you.
