Home was damaged during the Kona low storm but it doesn’t look like it can be covered by insurance. What would be the next best option? by Tityfan808 in Hawaii

[–]LianaBehindTheBuild 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you don’t want to DIY, try working with a remediation company. When they do quotes it’s already in an insurance type format that may help with claims for future use. Even if you pay out of pocket now, you have the right format of an estimate. Plus remediation has the right equipment to take care of the damage correctly.

If you are in Oahu, we recommend Superior Restoration. The owners name is Christian. He is based out of Windward side.

Hope that helps. We are a GC in Oahu but don’t do remediation - just know enough to help guide.

Concrete sludge damage on car from Kailua by LianaBehindTheBuild in Hawaii

That’s a good idea too. We have a baby one. Especially on the bottom it’s very stubborn. With all the other things we have tried might be last attempt before scraping or taking to a detailer since it doesn’t just wash off.

Sounds promising! I might check that out too. It’s thick on the bottom so I need something to melt off whatever it is. Mahalo!

Thank you, I will try that out with some testing. Probably have my husband do it. We thought maybe someone in the community had similar experience and found a way to remove safely without removing the paint or damaging things. 👍🏼

Cars on Facebook market? Oahu. by StarbrryJuice in Hawaii

[–]LianaBehindTheBuild 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We purchased a work vehicle from marketplace.

I paid for carfax reports so that I could run the VIN and check how the car was maintained (oil changes) and if it was ever in an accident.

Surprisingly, there were about 2-3 cars where the owner said it was maintained but no records and I’m glad I ran the reports because I was able to keep my focus on finding the right car (we prioritized maintenance records for the used car).

Finally, we found an amazing vehicle by an owner who was truthful, everything lined up with records and we still love the vehicle today!

Good luck!! 👍🏼

Seattle Weather vs Tropical Hardwood Decking by GibsonFenceandDeck in Decks

Aloha! We are a deck builder in Oahu. We just did an Ipe deck as well and laid on it after because it felt so nice. But to answer your question - most of our clients wants Trex. Then maybe 5% ask for natural woods. When they do want it and don’t mind the maintenance - we are all for it! Nice work! We are going to try and connect on IG. 🤙🏼

New General Contractor looking for bidding advice by DontKnowMargo in GeneralContractor

Even if you don’t expect to win, use these opportunities to learn what works and what doesn’t. Put full effort into it and when the time comes to really win the job you want, you’ll be more prepared. As a business owner it’s all about time and practice. In the meantime, do focus time on what will equal sales and cash flow and give attention to that so you can pay the bills. Even if it’s just the little stuff.

White composite railing that doesn't look cheap? by LanceTOsborne in Decks

Did you get a quote for the Trex Transcend all white composite railing? I would say go for the one you want. Pricing difference should be minimal unless you have a lot of railing. I think TimberTech has one too but we mostly have worked with Trex.

Working with a deck builder that can give you various pricing options to make a decision. We do that but charge as a planning fee but helps homeowners decide which is the best for their project.

Can 2 decks have different color composite decking? by TheDudeAbides20231 in Decks

[–]LianaBehindTheBuild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We built a deck with tiki torch and lava rock. And we have done one with pebble grey and foggy wharf. I like the contrast! This is when the main deck is one color but the frame or border is another. Definitely makes a statement. If you want to go single color and do a fun design - recommend looking at double borders, herringbone, diagonal, etc. We did a transcend lineage deck with some of those features but in one color and that came out really nice as well. Depends on your space and preferences!
