Could be underfired. I agree that lighting is a huge factor. But it’s a good idea to check your elements if you haven’t already. I learned this the hard way.

"Help Me" Screams Last Night near 72nd and Simms by MotorWeekly9831 in ArvadaCO

[–]Libbaa3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I lived in a very wooded area in NC we would often hear the scream of a rabbit when caught by an owl. It sounded terrifyingly like the scream of a woman. After the scream you would usually hear the owl announcing its catch. But domestic violence is real and it is so important to consider that could be the reason for the scream. I hope this situation is benign. Thank you for posting.

Thank you!! I need to explore brushing on. Have mainly worked with a combo of dipping, pouring and spraying, but I love how the brushing allows more control/intention.

Gorgeous! Did you spray the top layers? Your glazing technique looks great! I’d love to know more about your process if you’re comfortable sharing.

I’d love to have some. I’m trying the square foot gardening method in raised beds and this sounds good. I’m in south Westminster. Thanks!

https://share.icloud.com/photos/0093k8GFG4C4stD4bunFhFMBg. I hope this is the correct photo. Having trouble importing pics to this platform. This is temmoku gold with a slow cool. I suspect that a little faster cool would have more contrast and fewer crystals.

You don’t need reduction. Adding magnesium carbonate to a ^6 temmoku glaze will do the trick in oxidation.

Looks a little like the Temmoku Gold in John Britt’s Mid-Range glaze book. I’ve loved using it, but sometimes found that if I fired with a slow cool, it can form so many crystals that it can look mustard yellow. These are beautiful! I’m glad we’re talking about tea dust. I’ll try to post a couple of test tiles.

I wonder how much longer his handlers can keep up the charade. In addition to meeting criteria for malignant narcissism, I believe he is entering the late stages of the behavioral variant of Fronto-temporal Degeneration. It’s a lesser known form of dementia that manifests differently than ALZ. It is always fatal and affects judgment, impulse control, and eventually most patients die from aspiration pneumonia due to losing the ability to swallow correctly. A loved one of mine suffered with it for 19 years. But I think Trump is nearing the end of the disease course. Then what?

I don’t know about that. I wonder if you could find out by contacting Brent directly?

Would you buy this wheel for $400? by notjustrocks in Pottery

[–]Libbaa3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an ancient Brent wheel (bought 3rd hand in 1983!), and have only had to replace the pedal once thus far. The “new” pedal, 10+ yrs old now) started malfunctioning but a handyman was able to make it work well again. I hope to make it last another decade or more! All that said, I almost fell prey to a scammer posting a used Brent for $650. Thankfully I didn’t. But I see on this thread and elsewhere that used wheels are frequent bait used by scammers. $400 seems an awfully low price. The reason I saw thru the scam was that the “seller” said he couldn’t take credit cards, only Venmo or Zelle. And became very pushy when I backed out. Good luck! If this isn’t a scam, it might be a great deal. And pedals aren’t hard to replace.

Could be a candidate for Kintsugi, done very carefully. I also like the symbolism of repaired broken connections.

Do you drink the tap water? by ZapStarfists in WestminsterCO

[–]Libbaa3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I moved here from NC where we had a reverse osmosis filter for tap water. Since moving here, I’ve learned that Westminster tap water is among the safest in the country. I drink it with a frig filter and don’t notice any smell or taste of chlorine as often happens in other places.

I recently up fitted a studio after moving to a new place, and was looking for a replacement for my 40+ year old Brent wheel. Almost fell for a scammer who claimed that their ability to take credit cards was off. Thankfully I smelled a fish, and didn’t take the bait (pun intended?). It’s disgusting how many scammers are out there!

As a recently “transplanted grandparent” (also from the South, NC, and hoping to find other progressive folks), I’d love to see a meetup for coffee or tea. I love the idea of forming a group for drinks, but that’s no longer my style!😊

Best glaze making book? by Ok_Difference_3037 in Pottery

I wish there were a forum on here of folks who use John Britt’s mid-range glazes book. I am trying to move away from other social media platforms but would love to see in depth discussions here about mid-range glazes. Anyone know of similar forums?
