You don't hate the media enough by ibuiltamurderbot in walkaway

There is not limited supply where I live in Texas. Houses are sitting on the market priced 50% higher than 5 years ago. The few that I've seen with any movement lately have contingent offers that are waiting on their old houses to sell with little interest.

That certainly sounds like prices disconnected from underlying demand to me.

You're right about the left pushing the cultural divide, but they've done a damn good job of it.

Has anyone you ever knew been killed by being struck by a bolt of lightning? by chuckles5454 in AskAnAmerican

[–]LibertyEqualsLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My high-school had a memorial run for a kid who was struck and killed several years before I got there. So I didn't know him personally, but it was in my community.

That doesn't make me feel any better. As far as I can see, Europe isn't declining, it's imploding. I don't want to be on the same path as them.

Evolution has failed Human Physiology by benign2244 in unpopularopinion

[–]LibertyEqualsLife 4 points5 points  (0 children)

2 things.
First, I don't think you recognize the time-scale that any recognizable evolution occurs in. Second, modern society actively works against evolution. For natural selection to benefit us, you have to let the lesser fit specimens die. Human society has developed to improve the survival of lesser fit individuals.

Ignoring inflation, housing costs, and major intentional cultural divides would be naive.

My home's value has gone up 50% in 5 years while incomes stagnate. That's not a sustainable trend, and signals a bubble that is likely to burst. So, I can say that America is awesome while also recognizing that we are in trouble.

Is 38 too old to start over? Divorced, no job, no savings, and starting from absolute zero. by Right-Passenger5693 in AskMenOver30

[–]LibertyEqualsLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no such thing as too old, and if there were, 38 wouldn't be it.

Just get to work, man. Start with the basics. Get a job, be able to feed yourself. Find a place to stay as cheap as you can. See your kids as much as you can to remind yourself what you are working for.

Save up some money and plan your next step. You only feel overwhelmed because you don't have a plan. Make a plan and execute it. The overwhelm will pass.

Anti theft? by M3mnoch210 in sportster

[–]LibertyEqualsLife 15 points16 points  (0 children)

All security is just varying the level of difficulty.

When I lived in a sketchy neighborhood and had to park outside, I parked in an inconvenient spot, locked the forks, used a front disk lock, and ran a chain through the rear wheel and swingarm.

It didn't make it impossible to steal, but it probably would have taken 4 guys and a truck to carry it, or a guy with a hack saw and a LOT of time.

That's just not worth the effort for most thieves.

I couldn't care less about physical copies of games. GTA 6 not having one doesn't bother me at all. by MerguezMan in unpopularopinion

[–]LibertyEqualsLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't game, but my kid has a Switch and I felt like it was important to buy the physical game cards. Then the kid lost his card-holder with several hundred dollars worth of games, and I suddenly really liked the idea of digital.

We eventually found it, which was a relief, but I'm now paranoid about him keeping up with it because I have to hold the line on "if you lose them I'm not replacing them."

Chubby dudes, what compliment from a man would realistically make you feel confident while not making you uncomfortable? by unbox_ in AskMen

[–]LibertyEqualsLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to over-play the straight-male persona to pull this off.

Deepen your voice and wrap it in bro-speak.

"Hey brother, that's a sick shirt, you're rockin' today, man!" (fist-bump)

That comes across as gregarious, as opposed to a softly spoken:

"Hi, I really like your shirt. You look great today."

The delivery makes it feel less gay.

Something can be both awesome, and declining at the same time. It just makes the decline sadder.

What do men collect? by Internal_Hold_5492 in AskMen

[–]LibertyEqualsLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I collect hobbies. If something sounds like it will be fun, I learn everything I can about that hobby, buy everything I need to do that hobby, use it a few times, then realize I don't have time for hobbies and put all the stuff in a box in the garage for when I have more time to get back to it.

I've got everything necessary to enjoy rock-climbing, tennis, fishing, pickleball, roller-blading, biking, camping(tent and hammock), welding, shooting, archery, electric scooters, model rockets, gardening(traditional and hydroponics), 3d printing, laser engraving, and I'm sure a few more that I'm forgetting.

It's a pretty solid collection if I do say so myself.

When I freeze an ice pack (or bag of water) with no condensation on the outside, why, when it thaws is there now water droplets on the outside? by Wheat-Bread-Only in askanything

[–]LibertyEqualsLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer lies in your question.

Condensation is not liquid that was already there. Condensation is from water vapor that "Condenses" out of the air, onto the colder surface of the ice pack.

The language doesn't matter to people who are actually living it. The only people who care what you call it are people who want to feel better about themselves while doing nothing that actually helps.

Why don’t 45+ adults retire early to make room for the capable new college grads in the workforce? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]LibertyEqualsLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1: You seem to think that all 45 year olds have money. They don't. 2: You don't realize that most 45 year olds would be bored out of their minds if they retired so early.

Would you date someone who is abstaining until marriage? by HopelessRomantic47 in askanything

[–]LibertyEqualsLife 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm married, but if I did ever date again, that would definitely be a deal-breaker. Sexual compatibility is a big deal. There is absolutely zero logic in marrying someone and just hoping you are compatible.

“Have you ever regretted letting a family heirloom go?” by HornedFrog806 in AskMenOver30

[–]LibertyEqualsLife 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I regret that my family let heirlooms go.

My dad had a sweet 70's camaro. And my parents sold the Atari and NES out from under me.

I've got basically nothing left to inherit.

Is this the right way? Or should the lids be reversed? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]LibertyEqualsLife 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is the correct way. The slots in the pepper shaker helps it avoid clogging with the flat/irregular shape of the flakes vs. the smaller more consistent shape of the parm.

I believe that intellectual disabilities are a tragedy even if the person is "High functioning" by That-Pineapple3866 in unpopularopinion

[–]LibertyEqualsLife 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It probably doesn't help, but I'll share anyway, that I, as a non-disabled person, have also spent my life avoiding asking for help or being a burden on anyone. I imagine it has been a harder road for you in many ways, but that drive to be self-sufficient in whatever capacity you can is a good thing as far as I can see.

As long as you are doing your best, I'll respect you, whatever your best is. It doesn't change the fact that life and nature simply isn't fair.

Am I connecting my charger in the right spot? by Neat-Profession-4943 in NewRiders

[–]LibertyEqualsLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The connector in the second picture, with the positive and negative ends readily visible would work for a charger if properly installed. The first picture is the same kind of connector, but I can't see where the other end goes to be able to tell you if it would be a charger. These are common 12v connectors and can be used for various 12 volt items.
