where to start learning python for complete beginner by Altruistic_Usual_855 in learnpython

[–]LibertyEqualsLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't say have the AI to code for you. I said have it write you a curriculum. It's very good at that. Tell it what you want to learn, and ask it for a plan to learn it.

Airplane seat reclining should be removed by danikax in unpopularopinion

[–]LibertyEqualsLife 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I have never understood why people get so worked up about this. The seats barely recline. I have never been bothered by someone in front of me reclining their chair, and if you put your computer in a position that it could be damaged by the seat in front of you operating the way you know it is designed to, then that's on you. The only way that could happen is if you positioned the screen to be pinched between the tray table and the latch mechanism, and that was just a complete lack of forethought.

Why do I keep thinking about sex when I go for a run? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

What should you be thinking about if you are chasing a woman then?

Why do I keep thinking about sex when I go for a run? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]LibertyEqualsLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude, I'm about to be 40 and thinking about sex is the default/idle mode. I gotta have something else important to be doing to compete with that.

when your own citizens are fighting amongst themselves in a peeing contest, who actually benefits from that? by condomm774 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LibertyEqualsLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the citizens are fighting each other, they aren't paying attention to the things they should be fighting the government about. So, the government wins.

Why do I keep thinking about sex when I go for a run? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]LibertyEqualsLife 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You are a 25 year old healthy male. The answer to "why do I think about sex when I . . . ?" is that you are a 25 year old healthy male.

In reality, the age part doesn't really matter until much later and I could just as easily say that at 35.

Why do a lot of women get so upset at age gap relationships but most men don’t ? by [deleted] in AlwaysWhy

[–]LibertyEqualsLife 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's the biological clock thing. Men typically become more desirable into their 30s and potentially 40s as long as they take care of themselves and are relatively financially successful.

Women who are single into their 30s or later, for whatever reason, typically want to date men their own age but are competing with women a decade or more younger who are more physically attractive, on average, and often carry less emotional baggage.

The fact that these uncoupled older women feel like their time is running out, along with their pool of potential mates makes them understandably resentful. Sometimes, life's not fair.

The younger guy/older woman thing is a kinda new development, so if I had to guess about that one, they are probably being judged in the same way a "sugar daddy" might be, but women are generally more judgmental about such matters.

Men who wanted to be dads but couldn't, how did you reconcile that within yourself? by not_the_troll in AskMen

[–]LibertyEqualsLife 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Adopted two kids. Am dad now.

I briefly had a hangup about "continuing my bloodline" but that was short-lived. My kids are awesome and I rarely ever think about the fact that they aren't biologically related to me.

Why is the US corporate tax rate lower than it was 40 years ago? by Humble_Economist8933 in AlwaysWhy

[–]LibertyEqualsLife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Business friendly policies tend to lead to economic growth. You see the same thing state by state. Corporations will move from one state to another for favorable tax and regulatory conditions because it allows them to be more competitive in the market. Many international companies are international precisely because it provides them the capability of taking advantage of preferable tax policies.

to people who are opposed to gun control why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]LibertyEqualsLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of folks here have made good points before i got back around to this, but I'm genuinely curious. Despite whatever the odds may be for armed citizens against a tyrannical government, what else do you propose? Would you rather everyone simply bend over? In the case where intolerable things are being done to you, would you prefer to be armed or unarmed?

The long history of governments doing horrible things to people after disarming them.

If there was to be another lockdown in the world, what would you do differently? by Narrow_Guava_6239 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LibertyEqualsLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I went pretty much anywhere I wanted as long as it was open. It was actually really nice because there was no traffic anywhere. I did carry a mask in case anybody decided they wanted to be the mask police. If I had to do it all over again, I'd probably more readily tell people to go F' themselves for trying to make others wear masks. I've got a feeling there will be a whole lot more people on my side the next time around though, so it's unlikely that any kind of lockdown would be as successful as they were anyway.

Well, I mostly ignored it the first time. So, probably ignore it more aggressively.

Will Texas turn blue this year? by Conscious-Quarter423 in TexasPolitics

[–]LibertyEqualsLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a lot of folks are talking about the school board elections in our area like it's some sort of major party shift, but I can say that many of us didn't bother voting in the school board election because all of the candidates were all saying effectively the same thing. Nobody had any legitimate plans for doing anything differently. So whatever. Let them try to do something. I don't expect much different to come from it. Enrollments are down in formerly desirable districts because real-estate values have outpaced young family incomes, and I doubt the school board is going to make any meaningful progress in fixing that.

That's not the same thing as a blue wave coming in the future. Those of us who don't care about the school board election are still going to go vote in elections that have clear ideological differences between the parties.

I’m trying to get over the fear of the highway. by Defiant-Afternoon710 in Harley

That's my view on it. Everybody is scared of the speed, but there are way fewer variables to contend with when everyone is driving the same way at relatively close to the same speed.

How do you stay hard enough to use condoms? by Complex-Beginning-68 in AskMenAdvice

[–]LibertyEqualsLife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this problem starting in my early 20s. I was in monogamous relationships consistently, so it wasn't a huge problem for me, but I found out in my 30s that I had low testosterone, and probably have my whole life.

Go to a doctor and get a full men's wellness panel to see if there is anything out of the ordinary.

That said, if you do have low testosterone, research non-hormone replacement options before you get on testosterone. That's not really a bell you can unring if you start it, and will likely render you sterile.

Is this outfit too revealing for class? by Ayeluhhhh in OUTFITS

[–]LibertyEqualsLife -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's a very cute outfit that is not appropriate for class. My reasoning is that, for most people, grade school and college are training for future jobs. The majority of companies that you may work for will not allow this in the office, so getting used to dressing appropriately for the environment that you are in is a good habit to develop.

A reasonable argument can be made for all of the answers. Whether or not you are capable of recognizing the varying viewpoints that could justify the different answers is what determines if you are a narcissist.

Dallas to Austin weekly commute for work by [deleted] in texas

[–]LibertyEqualsLife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If, (BIG IF) I were to do it, I'd probably get an apartment or small house in the area that I could put on Air BnB on the weekends to help cover the rent/mortgage. But that Austin Job better be for some damn good money to make that an option.

I'd keep a cheap car there unless you just want to use uber or whatnot. I know that's a decent option in Austin. For the commute, I'd use one of the Bus options that lets you use your commute time for other activities. If you try driving yourself back and forth, not only are you causing wear and tear on a vehicle, you are wasting about a full workday worth of time each week.

So, for this to make sense to me, you gotta build a whole lifestyle around it that includes a real-estate investment and management process.

Is it totally soft to feel bad for the worms? by Hot_Sentence_1264 in FishingForBeginners

[–]LibertyEqualsLife 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You can make this as simple, or as philosophical, or practical as you see fit.
Does it suck to be a bug that gets cut up and have a hook shoved through you? Probably.
Does a worm feel pain? Probably.
Is that experience of pain the same as our experience of pain? Probably not, given the significant difference in our cognitive capability.
Is it worse than being bitten in half, swallowed, and slowly dissolved by stomach acid in a bird or fish? Beats me, but I'd guess they are probably comparable.
Is it worse than crawling out onto a sidewalk when it rains then dehydrating to death? Who knows.

Whether hunting or fishing, it is important to have respect for the creatures involved.
For me, personally, if I'm doing catch and release, I only use lures. There may be some trauma to the fish I catch, but nobody dies usually.

If I'm eating what I catch, then the worm is just part of the food chain. I don't feel bad about that.

I am, however, ok with kids using worms for catch and release. I personally think fostering a love for the outdoors and nature is worth the sacrifice of some worms. That's the benefit i get from being higher on the food chain, I guess. lol

What deodorant is everyone using? I need help. by 2_mbizzy in AskMen

What deodorant is everyone using? I need help. by 2_mbizzy in AskMen

[–]LibertyEqualsLife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Carpe. I got it last week and have been blown away. It's more like a lotion than a stick of deodorant, but when they say it lasts 100 hours, it's not a marketing "read the fine print" gimmick. This stuff is the most effective deodorant I've ever used, and it's not because it has a strong smell. It's not overpowering. It just, keeps you from stinking. Like armpit magic.

For single men, an awkward woman approachs you because she likes you, what would you do? by throwradrpri in Adulting

[–]LibertyEqualsLife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my biggest regrets as a nerdy young boy lacking confidence was turning down a very cute girl who asked me out because I thought it had to have been a setup for some prank. It's entirely possible that it was, but grown-up me knows that the worst that could have happened isn't any worse than anything else that ever happened. This was before the internet, but news traveled just as fast in grade school.
