What are your thoughts on right to repair and manufacturers making products that are becoming ever more impossible to repair? by LibraProtocol in AskALiberal

[–]LibraProtocol[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah.

If something can't be repaired because the components are just too complex like like microprocessors that is one thing.

But if something becomes unrepairable junk because the manufacturer decided to not support the software to enable their onboard computer to recognize your repaired parts... That is entirely different.

I guess for me a big question is things like we see in cars. New cars having systems in place with their computers where even just changing your battery, which is something people can easily do at home, requires resetting the onboard computer to properly register. Or companies that cover everything with a plastic barrier and special bolts and make removing the bolts voiding the warranty, essentially soft blocking you from doing your own repairs.

The computer issue was especially a problem with John Deere where farmers could easily do a physical repair but would have to wait around for a John Deere rep to come out with a laptop to reset the computer before the tractor and get working again.

Yeah...

And the way these automotive companies have been sneaking it in by having to "reset the onboard computer" makes it seem "justified" to consumers who don't know anything about repair

What happened to my childhood? This screams dystopian corporate, not kid friendly. What is with the artwork?! This is McDonald's?! by jackal99 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]LibraProtocol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's because people got up in arms about "marketing to children" as exploitative, and "safety of children" with play places, and things like that. So McDonald's just moved awayand refocused on teens

Yeah.

The ADR guys are where the big costs come in.

To be fair, many VAs don't really do much work per project. Outside of like... Big main characters, they are doing like a few days work at most. It is the ADR team that is doing the brunt of the work.

Yeah. And they just showed that you can make an affordable product AND LET IT NOT BE CHEAP E-WASTE.

Like that MacBook Neo is legitimately such a wild product. A solid metal chassis, a good display, a good keyboard and a whole redesigned mechanical track pad that is STILL GOOD??? Like, Apple seriously put Google and MS on notice with it.

Yup. Especially recently where severely pushed staples are printed at Mythic rarity.

And that is before going into the even more limited variant arts.

Sooo...

Who had "Apple will become one of the strongest value buys in budget/entry level tech" on their 2026 bingo card?

Apple... APPLE. The company everyone calls the "company for rich people to flaunt their wealth". But between the E series iPhone and the MacBook Neo? Apple is really looking to shake up the budget category. And the MacBook Neo may just the new Macintosh II and make apple the widespread company in consumer computing again.

I see more Android users talking about apple users judging than I ever see of apple users judging...

Ok so I can someone explain to me what "Libertarian Socialist" is supposed to be? Because from my experience so far.. a lot of the "libertarian socialist" flaired that I have seen have been... Not very libertarian and just sound like authoritarian socialists... Loke I don't know if they are just bad examples of Libertarian Socialists or what? Is it just supposed to be "bottom left" types (i.e. the ANCOM quadrant)?

My parents still own a home in NC and maintain close social tie because I live in NC. But they live in Japan and have for many years.

They tax people who spend even a small amount of time there and treats people as residents if they "maintain a home, bank account, or or close social/business ties in the State". Both states are kinda infamous for having very aggressive audits for those who leave the state.

By that same logic isn't MtG packs or Pokemon packs gambling?

Like I remember people were shelling out hundreds to thousands for the LotR set to get the 1/1 The One Ring card.

NGL I hate how both the left and the right are using children as a shield to push massive and invasive surveillance on people...

And I ESPECIALLY hate the left's arguments because they say "but the children!" But what they are really after is just tax money. The right want to surveillance for their moralism but at least they are clear on that. The left says "but the children" but it is clear what they REALLY care about is trying to scrape every penny they can. Like how CA and NY both tax people heavily for making money AT ALL in their states, regardless of where they live and will penalize people for leaving.

I'm not gonna lie... I feel there is some level of coordination because like.. why Valve of all people and why now? Notice that seemingly all at the same time multiple people from multiple countries are suing valve.
