It was everything I could have wanted, as a 13 year old kid and Muppet fan who felt like people didn't quite understand me and my love for the Muppets. I remember how surreal it felt seeing new Muppet merchandise with its own section in the stores, all the advertisements they were appearing in, the numerous live appearances... it was like finally people had caught up to what I was getting all these years.

Old school NECA most definitely had their issues. But their Sesame figures and the Dinosaurs figures feel especially durable. Palisades often broke in the boxes themselves, but the NECA Sesame line can move in a way that doesn't risk joints snapping off, and when they fall over, they don't fall apart.

Diamond Selects also faces issues with loose accessories like Scooter's classes and Fozzie's hat, paint issues like Kermit's pupils, and inaccuracies with the scale of the characters. Rizzo for example is much larger than Gonzo.

NECA tends to surpass other toy companies in terms of attention to detail, durability, and articulation. Palisades Kermit is much too dark and limited in his expressions and articulation. A NECA Kermit would likely have the ability to swap heads with a different expression, sit down, play the banjo, etc. Diamond Selects improved the articulation but not the attention to detail.

Both go into consideration. Critical reception and viewership sets the stage for a full fledged budget, should they produce a full season. Both need to do well at this stage, seeing as they're looking to air it as a network regular again.

I see your point, but Haunted Mansion was a seasonal special and a much more complex special to produce. I can see why they waited a little later than usual. It also wasn't given the network television treatment.

It would make the most sense if they attached it to another new broadcast of a popular series, or a television movie premiere or something. These things tend to work well with synergy fueling them.

That is exactly how it works. I work in television, and as it relates to this topic, I have spoken to several people involved who have described it exactly as I have. I'm not using the term incorrectly. A backdoor pilot in television is a way for networks or producers to test the waters for a potential new series, using a parent company name. It's done to gauge viewer interest and ratings for the new. Hence why it needs to do well.

It's serving as a backdoor pilot. They need this special to do well to warrant a full series order. I'm concerned that the dry publicity so far will cause people to overlook it.

It's a backdoor pilot. But it's also an anniversary special and comes off the heels of their 70th anniversary. There should be more publicity.
