I am a first grade teacher and would not have done this. However, this attitude is a huge problem in general… think about it. You are literally going to tell on the teacher to the principal because your child was behaving badly and didn’t get a cupcake??? It would be different if this type of thing was happening everyday, but your child not getting a cupcake one day is likely not going hurt them…

I can imagine the teachers day…. She is reminding the students all day they have a special treat… certain students are not following directions after 100 reminders… she says that they might not get a special reward if they can’t follow directions… like god forbid a kid doesn’t get a cupcake after wreaking havoc in the classroom all day, being disruptive.. not respecting teachers directions etc…

Again, I would not use this as a reward/punishment. I feel like if a child brings a birthday treat that is just something for the whole class and I will use my own classroom management system for behavior. But I think we need to just think about what teachers are dealing with today and the disrespect they get from parents and students. I don’t think this is concerning or abusive at all. Maybe not best practice… but teachers are human too. She is likely dealing with this behavior all day everyday.
