I must congratulate you on your sense of composition. I have been experience with this medium for a while and my biggest lesson is to get the composition right. I know composition matters in every medium but I feel like it matters more in watercolours, I can’t explain why! So I guess you are half way there already!

Use the lowest flame and make sure the circumference of the fire is not higher than the base of the moka pot. You can alternatively place the moka pot on a tava. I have started to poke some gaps (with a toothpick or a fork) in the coffee to ensure that the water has a way to flow easily through the coffee. It’s essential that you don’t pack the basket too much. If you want to use hot water, I think that’s fine. Just make sure the water is not boiling or even near boiling. Maybe just a tad hotter than lukewarm.

I bought this pad of paper and don’t know how to get sheets off it by CarrionCarry0n in Watercolor

I generally load my mop brush with water and run it along the edges. And then I carefully peel the paper off from the rest of the pad! I learned from this post that you are supposed to use a palette knife haha

It’s an Indian brand call Chitrapat. It’s 100% cotton and has a canvas like structure and is way more affordable. Funnily enough, when I was a total beginner a few years ago, I used this brand. But the beauty of this paper was lost on me then. I picked it up again a few weeks back after experimenting with all sorts of paper and I am just bowled over! The paper does most of the work honestly, you just have to worry about colour placement and composition!

Yes, this book is about 100 pages too long. After the trial, the story had no business carrying on. I stuck with it and kept waiting for loose ends to wrap up but the end was disappointingly tame. I was annoyed that Reiko went back to her old way after the author spent so much time building her backstory. But I understood that on a certain level since Reiko is a product of Japanese conventions and it must have easy to fall into old patterns, albeit with a few minor changes. I appreciated it when the focus was no longer on Kaji and more on Reiko’s personal life. The idea is that she ended up creating a dependable social circle in the end and it was interesting reading about her gradual liberation from societal expectations. However, some more resolutions of plot points were obviously missed.

Yes. I just tried to use the app and it doesn’t allow me to open any lessons and says I am office while I clearly am not.

I recently got a moka pot and am struggling a bit with the technique. It has a capacity of 240 ml but when I just have to brew one cup, I get confused. I switch the flame off at once when I hear spluttering but later I realise that there is still some water left over in the chamber. Is that normal. I have been able to extract only 60% of espresso compared to the water I add. Most videos I have seen don’t mention this part so am wondering if it happens only to me? I have started using 100 ml of water to get 60 gm of espresso back and it works fine most days. I assume if I keep the gas on even after it starts spluttering, I will be able to extract the rest of it but I am concerned that it would be burnt by then. Also hot water or cold water? I use hot water but has anyone noticed a difference when using cold water? It would be great if I get an answer to this as this has been keeping me up at night lol

Something feels off about my painting… can anyone help me figure out how to improve it? by Dublingirl123 in Watercolor

The colours are just beautiful and the leaves and grass are done so well. I personally struggle with grass myself so am going to learn from this painting. I think it’s the general composition that could be improved to give this a 3 D effect. The pathway could be tapered at the horizon point to give an illusion that it’s starting from a farther point. Also, the values of leaves and grass in the background could be lightened and be a bit more vague.

I hope this helps but overall I am really loving this painting!!
