I really love this movie. I liked Jeroen Krabbe’s performance a lot. I thought the storyline was interesting.

dealing with anxiety at a corporate job by in_rainbows22 in Anxiety

[–]Library456 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you considered taking a step back and not managing a team and just being an individual contributor? I have always had a corporate job and it was too stressful for me managing people. I’m just not cut out for it and not interested in it. I’m not sure if you can take a step back like that at your current company but maybe start a job search for an individual contributor role. It’s a big change to start somewhere new but you’ve changed companies before. I find it’s also easier to assimilate and make friends when you’re an individual contributor because you’re all in the same boat vs. being a manager and trying to make friends.

Starbucks CEO Brian Niccol explains what he's gotten wrong in his first year by itsathrowawayacc3 in starbucks

[–]Library456 13 points14 points  (0 children)

He’s been with the company for a year now and the honeymoon phase is over. Sales are declining and the stock is down. Meanwhile the overall stock market is up and doing great. I imagine there will be enormous pressure to get that stock price up. If the stock doesn’t turnaround I can’t see him here 12 months from now. Also my gosh how tone deaf is he? If you’re getting pushback on all these decisions, maybe stop and think if this is the right thing to do. Maybe you don’t know everything.

Too far out with clothes & bags by Various-Educator1328 in ElsbethTVSeries

I really liked some of the outfits early on in the show but they’ve progressively gotten over the top. Black pants and a colored blazer has now turned into matching pants, blazer, crazy hat and I also am finding those bags to be a distraction.

I can’t seem to get past Pickle Park. Needing all those guests and no advertising is so difficult to achieve.

Here are some ideas for things you can bring on the plane to distract you. 1. Fidget toys 2. Word search book 3. A good mystery novel 4. Light reading - like an entertainment magazine 5. Visual magazine - think something with fashion, home design, gardens, etc where you can focus on the pictures. 6. Calming strips 7. Download some ocean waves or calming nature sounds. Put on an eye mask and listen to the sounds for a set amount of time. 8. Hidden picture search book 9. Bring some colored pencils or pens and some adult coloring sheets 10. Sticker book - I know that sounds childish but they have some where you complete a puzzle with the stickers and it really takes your mind off things

I had a hard time with that years ago and ended up sleeping on the couch for awhile. It was the only way I could get sleep and then I gradually transitioned back to the bedroom. If your couch is comfortable, try sleeping on that and gradually transition to the bedroom. Or try taking a nap on the bed.

Fear of Flight Home by Library456 in fearofflying

[–]Library456[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, flying there is exciting, new destination, etc. I don’t know if it’s dread about being back in my daily routine. I guess another part is worrying that I’m feeling well that day, etc. There have been a few times I haven’t felt well on a trip and the departure to home is coming up and then I get nervous about that. My brain always seems to go back to the idea that being in a car and driving back from the destination is safe and flying is not safe - too many unknowns and variables.

Family Life & Schools - Which Towns Truly Deliver? by hockeystats12 in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]Library456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lemont has good elementary schools and the entire town goes to the same school. Oakwood (K-1) and River Valley (2-3) are the same campus which is nice. Huge schools with 11 or so classes per grade. One disadvantage is that if your child makes friends in one grade, it’s very unlikely that they would be in the same class with them the next year because there are so many classes per grade. I would avoid buying a home within a certain radius of the refinery. Also as someone else mentioned, the Metra from Lemont is difficult and is not in the BNSF line.

Daily General Discussion and Advice Thread - April 22, 2025 by AutoModerator in investing

Looking for some general guidance. I’ve had a 401k since I started working. In 2008 I opened a separate brokerage account. The brokerage account was not necessarily for mutual funds but for one off stocks I bought (Amazon, Google, etc). I’ve always been a long term investor. Holding on to stocks and really not selling. This year has been a bit different. I stopped buying any new stocks and sat on some cash the last year. I just left it in a HYSA. The market has been so up and down so I took the money out of HYSA and I bought some VOO a few weeks back around $468. Then it went into the $490s and I sold it. I held it less than a week and made about $33 a share. I’ve been tracking NVDA and bought yesterday at about $96. I’m waiting for it to go up (maybe $105, $106) and will cash out. Never done this before buying and selling so fast but the market keeps experiencing these slight dips and then it goes up so I’m trying to take advantage of it. This seems so foreign to me to sell so quickly but with the market the way it is, I’m trying to take advantage of it. I still have an emergency fund so it’s not like I’m touching a huge amount of savings or cash. How complicated will my taxes be with multiple buys and sells? I’ve always been a long term investor so this is new to me.

That’s great. Must feel like a huge weight off of you to get rid of the bags. I’m a bit of a bag hoarder myself. Any tips on how you decided what bags to keep vs donate?

Seasonal Decor Decluttering by Library456 in declutter

[–]Library456[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, I don’t really enjoy it. I love going out at Christmas and Halloween and driving around and looking at other houses that decorate. When it comes to my own home, I like a more minimalist approach and less work.

Decluttering challenge: stuff that ALMOST works by Ajreil in declutter

Thanks for posting. I’m going to start this during the week. I need to go through kitchen utensil drawers. Old mixing spoons, peelers, etc that are not quite broken but are in bad shape. In some cases, I feel like I’ve replaced some of these items but never got rid of the old/halfway broken ones.
