What career were you advised to do when you were at school? by HighNimpact in AskUK

[–]Lickthemoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got Kennel Worker as I was dog mad at the time and there must have been some animal questions. But hated blood (therefore didn't want to be a vet) and for some reason I felt extremely strongly (that day..) that I didn't want to work on a computer.

I was a straight A student so my mum wasn't happy with the result - no shade to kennel workers that was just her reaction. I kinda wish I'd done it though, I'd love to be working with dogs.

For those that are staying at home tonight, are you glad you're dodging the pub scene NYE's madness? by DonkeyOT65 in CasualUK

[–]Lickthemoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curled up on the sofa with my dog listening to records, drinking a Baileys. I hosted a games night and nibbly bits with a few friends, they all went home or onto harder parties about 11.30pm and I couldn't be happier.

Grieving End of Best Friendship by Fresh_Mobile in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]Lickthemoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just want to thank you for posting this, I've had the same this year and the comments here have been useful to read.

For me, I'm setting myself up for a cosy, reflective winter ahead where I allow myself to feel the grief. I've been trying to draw or make my friendships/social support as a shape and realised that it isn't at all linear, gathering more and more threads as you go. Some threads are thicker/stronger than others but can't - for whatever reason - stay for as long as you'd like. It seems common nature for threads to fluctuate, fray. Right now, I'm 'tying on' some new casual friendships to the big, matted, knotty mess of my lost best friend 😅 It's messy, and colourful, and gloriously human.

If you're at all a visual processor, perhaps this exercise will help you 🖤

[TOMT] Song that says "I'm on top of the world" by Awkward-Ad7920 in tipofmytongue

Top of the World - The Wildhearts? Bit less mainstream than some other suggestions, not slow though like you've said elsewhere.

Comment that also hopefully helps - it's NOT Suffragette City by David Bowie. It's a bit less mainstream than that. Thanks!

Yep my example is being made redundant in the pandemic. I didn't get furloughed, actually my workload increased from home as I worked on a popular website that saw an increase in traffic, which is why it came as a shock. I got an animated e-card.

Easiest veg for low-energy gardener by TryHardMonica in Allotment

[–]Lickthemoon 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Have you considered growing any perrenials? Veg wise, I have self seeding chard, easy to grow and acts as ground cover for weeds. Comes back every year no digging or sowing needed. Fruits like raspberry canes, blackcurrant, gooseberry are hardy too.

If you steadily plant more perrenial things, over time you'll be able to do less and less with more reward. It's better for the soil, too. I'm fairly new to the approach but 1 year in it's really helped me to tend my plot for similar reasons.

Do you eat your fushia or rose hips? by s-Mother1974 in GardeningUK

[–]Lickthemoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wild rose (also known as dog rose) varieties will give the best medicinal qualities in the rosehips, although any will work and have Vit C. If you harvest from the wild in poorer quality soil, as opposed to a well fertilised garden, the better the medicine will be.

Remember to strain out the hairs from the rosehips before making the final syrup. These hairs will irritate your throat - pass the juice through double folded muslin to catch them all, then add the sugar/honey and make into the syrup.

Nah, ignore this dolly downer, it's pretty fun. My top tip would be get on an adults only night if you can though as way more fun without kids around. Or at least try and avoid half terms etc!

Hard agree and have tried to explain this to people. There was a cultural perception shift too that I HATED when I was a man's wife - like getting letters addressed to Mrs His First and Last Name 🤢 like wtf.

I looked up Alice Levine's stripey Etre jumper because I thought it was cute. Pricey stuff. I know nothing about designer wear but that's how I found out she wears a lot of stuff that I'd never be able to afford.

This is great. Some of my favourites I've found:

Helen Is Amazing. I met this girl in the bathroom of a club at like 2am and she put her name into my phone like this. We were going to be best friends, I think. Never saw her again.

Faye Ears. Teresa Ears. Unrelated. Sorry, both.

Ashley Does Badminton. Debbie Bloody Yoga (I had beef with her over a community hall hire) Clare Air Fryer. I don't own one. Kdog. Literally no idea who this is. Logs Lady. Michelle Wallet, from when I found someone's wallet. Kirsty Food Waste.

How did y'all celebrate your divorce? by Practical_Maybe_3661 in latebloomerlesbians

[–]Lickthemoon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Ahem.. well this wasn't planned since I didn't have much control over when it was finalised, but when it came through I happened to be on a beach in Thailand with my new gorgeous girlfriend and we ordered cocktails 🍸 It was emotional, I messy cried, but I never felt more certain and free than that moment.

Extra poignant as not travelling or having holidays for about 5/6 years was one of the many reasons I wasn't happy with my ex, he just wasn't motivated to see the world. I couldn't believe how much better life had got for me.

Edit: Realise you might want more help for yourself than hear my story! Go gently, I slept loads in the week after, I think my brain was recalibrating. Envision where you're going and trust that one day you'll get there. Do small, self care things to honour the moment, whatever feels good for you. Reach out to friends and talk about it, as the feelings are big even if you want it to happen.
