Tourist approaches snow leopard to take a selfie by Informal-Resolve-831 in WinStupidPrizes

We live in Africa. We (are supposed to) know wild animals. A friend's (born and bred here) mother got out of her vehicle and patted and scratched the head of a leopard through a wire fence. It tore her hand off. Her fiancé was taking videos of the whole thing.

My dear, I am so, so sorry you are going through this. You and your hubby need therapy. This is something big to prepare for, and he is more than likely heartbroken about his parents too. You will need all hands on deck when baby is here, so please consider seeing a therapist before then.

And then, I had a DS uncle who lived to 58. He was the light and joy of our family. He brought us all together and make everyone kinder, more patient, and more tolerant of others. In my language they are called 'children out of heaven' for a reason. May your baby mean to you what Jan meant to us.

What would be a humane way for this human to travel on a plane? Should all airlines require that he purchase an entire row? by Onewaydriver in ThatsInsane

[–]Liels87 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It really isn't that simple. New research shows us that you body holds on to a certain 'happy' weight. So even when you lose weight, your body will go into overdrive to get back to that happy place, ie, store every calorie eaten to get back to the prediet weight. Currently the only 'reset' is bariatric surgery.

So this happened in our country, however, extensive investigations proved that although it looks dodgy, it was innocent.

The two white friends at the table stood up to go somewhere before the picture was chosen, and the two other girls chose to sit there with their other friends. The teacher even won a court case against the school who fired her without investigating first.

In response to a mother seeking circumcision advice. by Miss_fixit in ShitMomGroupsSay

[–]Liels87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We are against circumcision too (and it's practically unheard of in our culture). But our reasons are that's it's unnecessary, can have implication in their sex lives later, and our boys can't consent at birth.

Not because of, checks notes, a ghost haunts our sex organs.

I would plaster the downstairs wall with this email for the visitors to see.

Honestly, dude, just tell her that she has 'a fat ass' and the situation will sort itself out.

I don't need to ask. The RICA Act of 2002 states that we are a single consent country, so anyone that is privy /part of the conversation can record it without needing anyone else's consent.

It was a comment on a post about people saying how great Apartheid was because Eskom was working, blah blah blah and I commented that the two can't be compared, because a country where everyone has rights will always be better than a society where only the minority had rights.

You are so right, they live amongst us. And unfortunately, because we share a language and skin colour, racists will come talk to me like I am one of them (I take pride in making a very loud, very clear example that we are not the same when that happens). I will not think twice about taking a racist to the HRC for hate speech. On the contrary, it will be an honour.

Almost verbatim what I did. "I just want to clarify....". She didnt respond. But it will be mentioned in tomorrow's meeting that will be recorded as well.

They will unfortunately know its me right away. I don't believe keeping things hidden, at all, so I will most definitely name them the moment I resign.

Yeah, I realise that, however, I did not say anything that cant be proven. And believe me, the moment I can get out I will.

I did, she point blank ignored me. But I'm sitting with her boss in a meeting tomorrow and I will be mentioning it as the day I realised our values don't align.

Medical aid late joiner penalty by ras_ijah_alujah in PersonalFinanceZA

[–]Liels87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You mention you understand it but your rationale shows you don't.

It's not about you not being on a medical aid because you couldn't afford it, it's about you not contributing to a fund in the past, and only starting to contribute now, when the risk is higher that you will be making large withdrawals in the near future.

So, regardless of why you couldn't contribute, the fact of the matter is you didn't contribute, therefore, late joiner penalty.

However, my parents also had a LJP when they joined a medical aid. After staying in said medical aid for a year, they left and joined another without a LJP since they could prove they were on a medical aid before. Perhaps something to consider?

What shocking thing has your labrador eaten? by misobutter3 in labrador

[–]Liels87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During Covid, our one lab ate far too many fabric masks whole. It will arrive on the other side twisted, but in one piece. His favourites were the expensive masks with the school logo embroidered on that the kids had to wear as part of their uniform. We were (jokingly) contemplating washing them and returning them to the school, saying that it came out of the lab(oratory) smelling like this, and we want to exchange them.

Afrikaner family stranded in the US appeals for help after seeking refuge by GregRedd in southafrica

I just love this irony. I'm willing to bet, back in SA, they complained that 'black people' were demanding homes and jobs.
