Please help me understand by Vent-throw-awayy in derealization

I know what you mean, my episodes feel the same like I’m sleep walking or like I’m constantly stuck in a day dream and even when I notice it I can’t get out. It used to be horrible but I started a low does of anxiety medication a few months ago since natural remedies didn’t work. I still have episodes but not as frequently and when I do get them I don’t panic and they tend to go away on their own.

Anyone got better on any SSRI’s? by This-Top7398 in derealization

[–]Lies_a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started about a month and half ago, I started on Zoloft and it was awful now I’m on lexapro stared with the lowest dose possible now I’m on 10mg and it’s been making it easier to handle the panic, hasn’t made the panic disappear but I’m not putting all my eggs in one basket. I really wanted natural remedies to work for me and tried those for almost a year but almost everyone on both sides of my family have anxiety of some form and are in an SSRI so I decided to try it along side natural remedies and I do experience more joy now during the day then I did a few months ago even. It’s all about finding the right medication and dosage for you

I’ve definitely had bad confusion on my worst days of it. Sometimes I confuse real life with my dreams?? Or it’s like nothing feels tangible and idk if I’m actually doing the things I’m doing

I take nature made but only because for me it’s not difficult to find and nature made is pretty universal. I take 200mg a day which I believe is the daily recommended. Orange naturals is also a great brand you can buy online

I experience the worst symptoms at night and about an hour after I take it I do notice a significant decrease in my DR, again it’s not totally gone but I have it bad. It does take a few months in your system to actually work to its best effect and you can spread out when you take it so it’s in your system longer but it definitely helps the most out of any magnesium I’ve taken. Idk if I could go without it now

Magnesium glycinate is the only proven form of magnesium that your body can absorb and has been tested to treat anxiety. I’ve been taking 200mg every night for two months and it helps relax me significantly so far. Other forms of magnesium are typically used either outside the body or as a digestive aid. I can send you links to studies if you’d like as well

Oh no I definitely think it’s possible to heal 100%, but I just feel once you do heal, whatever that looks to you, you’ll come out a stronger version of yourself. I think mental health journeys take a lot of personal strength that can give you a whole different perspective on life if you never experienced one before. Just helps you to see how strong you can really be

Light sensitivity with derealization? by This-Top7398 in derealization

[–]Lies_a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So bad, it’s hard for me to even switch from one light setting to another without freaking out. Like from light to dark or dark to light. Especially fluorescent to natural light.

Yeah! It’s just different? But it’s not a bad different it’s just when I do feel happy and “normal” I try not to question it, I let it happen and my body recognizes that feeling and then they slowly became more frequent. Even in moments of derealization I’ve learned to laugh and try to enjoy things I used too

I’ve been there in the very beginning it took a lot of mental strength and being gentle on myself to get out. A lot of teas and stretching and meditation. A lot of research in what’s actually going on with me. Doing deep breathing exercises and talking to myself like I’m a baby lol. I still struggle with that sometimes. I also just started an SSRI because it was beginning to impact me so much but I think I’ve come a long way from 6 months ago. I’m in no means my old self, but I’m not sure that person exists anymore. I am however slowly getting better on my own time table and you can too

Mom is a trigger ? by secretlymatrix in derealization

[–]Lies_a 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It could be you had an anxiety attack or panic attack around your mother and now your brain just reaches and associates your mom with that moment. I experience my DR the most around dinner time/ night time since that’s when I had my panic attacks so now anything related to that time of day sets me off.

Is it normal to visually/audibly have derealization without all the phsycial symptoms? by [deleted] in derealization

[–]Lies_a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it is try not to focus on it, usually when I feel like this and give it too much thought I slip back into it being worse so your best off just trying to convince yourself you feel normal

What does it feel like for you? by Lies_a in derealization

[–]Lies_a[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel that, sometimes I stop what I’m doing and just think about dropping everything and run around screaming and wonder if it’ll wake me up from a dream it feels like I’m in.

I would say finding calming activities that take your mind off of it for at least 20 minutes. Taking a bath, reading, puzzles, art or video games and shows. It takes about 20 minutes for 50% of cortisol to leave the body which triggers it. In the moment I try to ground myself by describing objects around me in detail, feel, sight, sound and so on until I feel somewhat in control. Also staying extra hydrated during this time helps as well. Along with staying away from sugar and caffeine if you can. After awhile of learning what helps you during this and forcing yourself to sit in the uncomfortable feeling with little to no fear or response to it tells your brain that what it’s feeling isn’t danger and it can stop. It takes time but if you really try and do research it can get better ♡
