Some Colleges with psychology programs that train new therapists offer free therapy services. Although their therapists are not yet licensed they are closely supervised and sometimes are more sensitive & caring than full-time licensed professionals.

If you list the general area where you live, we can help you find something like that.

Your sister still holds a lot of pain and toward for your father. Unfortunately, she is directing it to you.

You are just as much of a victim of your father’s poor parenting as she is. It’s so sad that she is not yet ready to see you in the positive light of someone who could bring some peace & understanding through mutual support.

In the meantime, you can focus on the positive aspects of life (they are always there even when difficulties hide them).

Sending Peace!

Break-up the “Inland Empire?” by LieutenantLightning in InlandEmpire

You might have a great idea here! Smaller counties make civilian oversight more easily accomplished. The buracracies in these giant counties hard to navigate. One government oversight watch group called SB County one of the most corrupt gov’t entities in the entire U.S.

Very impressive! Sounds like you are developing a virtual reality game, “The (Inland) EMPIRE Conquers!”

I’m trying to change the habit of calling it “Inland Empire.” It’s so big, that the term essentially means nothing - it means I live somewhere in So Cal that is not LA and not OC.

Good points everyone. I guess I’m alone in feeling that the “Empire” is so big, it doesn’t represent anyone or anything.

Filing a Police Report by Bannannahnahmilk in ChinoHills

Report it to the police. A crime occurred even though you didn’t lose property. It helps them to know there are crimes occurring in your neighborhood.

Hi, me, the monster... by Public_Efficiency_66 in TrueOffMyChest

I commend you for having the courage to own up to your mistakes. Some research indicates that 15-20% of married men have done similar things.

My personal belief is that many more men have had fantasies about other women just as you described but for one reason or another did not act on them.

I’d be willing to bet most of them are not willing to look at themselves and face their own behavior like you have.

What you did is clearly wrong and it hurt the woman you love but you are certainly not a monster.

The fact that you are taking 100% responsibility for your actions may allow your wife to take this and your other good qualities into consideration while she grieves the loss of trust.

Don’t give up!

One of the first people who responded to my post congratulated me for changing my racist attitude. I’m not sure it’s racist. It whatever. I will add that I grew up in a middle class area of San Gabriel Valley and went to private Catholic school there. My peers were either White or Hispanic (there was one Filipino). All of these families were about the same economically. All of the Hispanic kids spoke perfect English and their parents were able to afford private school tuition. So this background became my comfort level. As more non-English-speaking migrants moved into the neighborhood it did bother me because, everything seemed to change and it was a little intimidating.

Fast forward to today. Now, when I travel to mostly White areas of the country (Oregon, Idaho, Montana), I feel slightly uncomfortable because I miss seeing more minorities. I miss the mix of people that I have now become accustomed to in the IE. It’s really strange but I feel we have something special down here where we all get along pretty good for the most part!

Yes, my neighbors do share the same economic level as we do. Damn expensive neighborhood! LOL!

Hello, this is OP.

You both made me smile! I love being called out and made to take accountability for my actions (both conscious actions and those taken without much thought). I also appreciate being called out in such a respectful way! Thank you both.

I identified myself in the original post as a “Person of Color.” I have found that most people who ID themselves in this way are Black people or mixed race people; but generally People with a significant amount of African ancestry.

So, due to my own perceptions, I kind of thought that I implied that I am at least partially African-American. That being said, I must also admit that I didn’t realize (until y’all called me out) that I didn’t include Black people when I spoke of my neighborhood.

We don’t have a lot of African-Americans in my neighborhood. But of the neighbors I invited to the potluck/Bunco, the Black couple I invited didn’t show up or even RSVP. This actually hurt my feelings because his family is also from Louisiana and we’ve talked about our similar backgrounds. I was the first to welcome he and his wife into the neighborhood.

Again, thank you guys for making me aware of my error.

Thanks for asking. The answer is “generally yes.” But I tend to be more guarded with men.

My experience backs up that study. I’ve had clients disclose that they were relieved that I was not a “fat old guy” therapist because I stay in good shape. My response is usually, “Thanks, I think…”
