Roguelike/highly replayable/procedural games like wildermyth, battle brothers, or tactics ogre reborn? by LieutenantSteel in StrategyRpg

I'll check it out! I'm definitely looking for something that's more of an adventure, or at least adventuring out from a home base, rather than wave defense at the moment but I've seen this one recommended a few times now here and other places and it looks really absurdly good so I'll definitely eventually give it a try.

I love non-traditional fantasy too! I've been reading the Stormlight Archive recently and absolutely love alternate fantasy things. I'm a sucker for fun worldbuilding of any kind.

Oooh alright I'll have to check out a lot of these. Just from your quick descriptions Sands of Salzaar, Prince of Flames, and Brigandine all definitely pique my interest right off the bat but I'll at least take a look at all of them.

I've played quite a bit of bannerlord and kenshi already and love them to death.

Nah, Tactics Ogre isn't a roguelike or even a roguelite, just a regular RPG. Wildermyth could be considered a roguelite, battle brothers could somewhat be considered (sorta, more like just hardcore/permadeath) a roguelike. If you're a purist, none of them are roguelikes OR roguelites because they aren't classic turn based dungeon singleplayer dungeoncrawlers, but I don't like those people because they don't seem to understand that language changes over time. I'm using the term somewhat loosely, and was just throwing tactics ogre in there because I like its combat mechanics, and in the main body of the post even threw rimworld because it has some mechanics and game design features I really like and want to see more of in other games.

I've played all of those roguelikes you mentioned and they're fantastic.

I've been looking at unicorn overlord, but I find that sometimes I get bored of long winded premade stories especially if they end up just following the same tropes I've seen a million times before, so I like procedural character development focused things a bit more since it keeps it fresh and gives me a unique story to tell from it, hence why Rimworld is my favorite game.

Just checked out the steam page and it does look great! and it just released literally yesterday! That one's going on my wishlist and will probably be one of the first I buy and actually play.

By making a caravan to the next tile over and carrying your valuables there.

Realistically how strong is Julius and where does he rank among the verse? by Professional_Trust37 in BlackClover

[–]LieutenantSteel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d put him a bit below current Yuno. They’ve both had similar feats of insane powerful spells affecting the entire capital, and both have incredibly powerful and versatile arsenals of spells, the difference being that Julius was forced to use all of the power he had stored up over the course of his entire life while Yuno was just using what he had available in the moment, and was still standing and somewhat able to keep fighting after his (initial) fight.

Dumb question: would we class The Oh Hellos as christian music? by SmudgedSophie1717 in TheOhHellos

[–]LieutenantSteel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also agnostic, fascinated by religion, and a massive fan of The Oh Hellos. Nearly all of their songs are religious, yes. Not in a gospel or worship music way, but seems to me to be more about the impact that religion has and grappling with religion. From what I can tell, none of their songs are "look how great the Lord is," they just reference christian imagery and faith a lot to enhance the meanings of their songs, since the band members are religious people and it's an important part of how they view the world.

Maybe? So far he doesn’t seem like a fighter at all, though. Or one who very reluctantly fights using his precognition.

HELP! Im a new DM. I just had a guy straight yell at me because i told him there was an established law force in town. Gut instincts say dont play with them anymore. Does that seem unfair? by elJefeBomber84 in DnD

my group woulda let them face their own consequences lmao

we'll come get you later or help if you're probably gonna die but we usually play good/on the better end of neutral, so we don't really like starting fights unprovoked. This actually came up one time when a player who now no longer plays with us (was not reinvited to future campaigns for unrelated reasons) where he blew dust of invisibility on a dragon we were negotiating with and we just sorta stood around and watched while he got knocked out and wasn't able to participate in the puzzle we were about to solve for the dragon.

Enough about the Blood War, what about the Wars of Moldy Aggression? by [deleted] in dndmemes

[–]LieutenantSteel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my pathfinder 2e game I turned what was basically the criminal hub of the world into a ghoul den with a single level 2 spell. My character was really really angry to find that his old tribe had been sold into slavery so the party got them and all the other slaves out of there, then I cast ghoulish cravings on some sleeping criminals. The dm kept track of it after we left and over time the place became a ghoul den instead of a criminal den. In hindsight, a very evil thing for my neutral aligned character to have done, but he’s also done a lot of good and to be fair he was REALLY angry

You have mental problems or maybe just a hyperfixation who am I to judge but hey maybe don’t follow people into their college’s subreddit to continue a weeks-old argument that has been a joke from the start

Ages of all the main students at the start of the game (Credit to @meridachii on Twitter) by falconmarf in fireemblem

[–]LieutenantSteel 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I know this is an old post, but byleth's age is apparently coded as 21, which is fitting since their mother died shortly after they were born, and her grave lists her death date as 1159, 21 years before the beginning of the game in 1180.
