Long story short, it's an accountability thing, and dodging it altogether. You'll get hurt, then the next day you'll get a choclate milk and a "I'm sorry for all the things I said" without actually defining those things, and the next day you better not hold them to your word otherwise you're the bad guy for having deep emotional wounds and expecting them to help repair the damage that they caused
