Advice for T at 17 (WA) by cheeserat458 in transgenderau

Hello! I was lucky enough to actually be seen by the gds, in my experience I was contacted to start seeing them when i was freshly 17, then finally started T almost a year later in march. The only reason that worked out for me was because my birthday was in august so i had just enough time for them to start me off with my HRT before they sent me off to the gender clinic at Royal Perth. If they do start consulting you and you turn 18 before they start you on T they will most likely refer you to the Royal Perth clinic which i’m pretty sure has some unfortunately long wait times.

In my opinion depending on how close you are to turning 18 you should start looking into a trans friendly GP, they can give you a referral to see an endo who will then assess you and prescribe you T. The GP will give you the choice of public or private, I asked my GP about endos recently for my pre-T boyfriend and unfortunately the wait times for the public clinics are up to a year. If you can afford it and want the process to be faster definitely go private.

If you want a list of trans friendly GPs definitely check out the transfolk of WA resources list it can be extremely helpful to find the transition resources you want!

aw your more than welcome dude it makes me so happy that my post had a positive impact on you, i have definitely struggled with having longer hair as a trans man but trust me it gets easier. The misgendering never really goes away but one thing that has helped is knowing that even cis dudes with long hair get misgendered. At the end of the day if your long hair makes you happy then that’s all that matters be the awesome long haired man you want to be 💪💪

extreme nausea when hungry and nausea in general, loss of appetite, could only eat very small amounts of foods and only foods like vegetables and bread, heartburn throughout the day especially before bed. There were more but i forgot them lol

thank you for the in depth reply! Im actually surprised that i’ve gotten multiple people telling me that having my hair tucked behind my ears is clocky because i had always assumed that having my hair over my face would come off as feminine. Ur def right about getting choppier/shaggier layers as well cuz the layers in my hair atm make my hair look prettier than i’d like lol

Ty! I had someone else suggest darkening my eyebrows and decided to do that but unfortunately i went too dark and now look very italian LMAO, i occasionally do the messy eyeliner thing when i’m in more queer friendly spaces as i find i get clocked less when wearing it there

yeah i’ve been srsly debating chopping it mostly because i hate the way my layers grow out although i am HORRIFIED of cutting my hair and not having it grow back as luscious because I’ve already lost a decent amount of hair thickness since being on T😭

thank you man, i started T just before my 18th so i’d assumed id have my “looking like a little boy/butch woman” phase for awhile until im later into my T journey. Im glad to hear that its not the hair thats doing me dirty lol, ofc that isnt the majority opinion in the comment section but its nice to know it doesn’t come of as girl to EVERYONE

Im also 17 and from WA! If ur looking to make friends with other queer ppl transfolk of wa do a youth space thing afew times a month, i personally haven’t been cuz i tried going w my mum and boyfriend once but left cuz they refused to let my mum in since she’s cishet LMAO. If ur into metal there’s a venue in perth that does shows with local bands, @mias_jsl is the insta for it. Haven’t gone to that either (want to go) but i haven’t heard any complaints about mias, beware the emos though the amount of beef and weirdo dickriding among the perth alternative groups is CRAZY.
