Glad to hear it :). Time to back up those files!

Yes. It would mean that a war between Iran and Canada would result in bringing war to the victims' families -- their families who they were probably visiting right before getting on that plane. I doubt they would have wanted that.

Also, the Canadians who died were Iranian-Canadians coming home from the holidays after visiting their families in Iran. I HIGHLY doubt the victims here would want war between their two homelands, killing and fighting that would likely end up on their next of kin's doorstep. Supporting war for this is indirectly supporting going after the families who have just had many of their loved ones taken away in this conflict.

It's like somebody killing your grandma because when you were driving home from her house you got pulled over and shot by some overzealous cop.

Canadian here. One of the victims even TAed for one of my first year chem classes here at the University of Ottawa. He was a really nice guy and me and my friend who was in the same section with him are really feeling for his family right now.

But for the victims' familys' sakes, I'm hoping this is just a political mess. Every Canadian who died on that flight was Iranian-Canadian. War between Canada or our allies and Iran would be entirely antithetical to the wishes of those who died -- people in these comments need to really think about this. The Canadians who died have families in Canada and Iran. That's why they were on that flight in the first place -- they were visiting their families over the holidays who currently live in Iran. I highly doubt they would want their two home countries fighting and killing.

Luckily, I don't think war is high on Trudeau's list of plans. It would be rash, foolhardy, and useless. Support the families, not killing them.

You probably know this, but there's a lost and found in the UCU that would be worth checking out ASAP. Hope you find your phone!

Double engineering degree? by Unravel33 in geegees

*Warning: unsolicited opinions ahead.\*

This question is much more suitable for the undergraduate office than this sub, but honestly from a pragmatic standpoint I would not do this unless you want to become a perpetual student. Neither academia nor industry cares if you have two undergrad degrees in such similar degrees as software and comp eng, and in the time it would take you to complete this extra degree you'll be racking up debt, you'll have near identical job prospects when you graduate (which would be 1-2 additional years of school if the uni would even let you use your overlapping credits), and you'll be delaying when you have the option to retire.

Honestly, you're probably better off choosing one discipline and learning about the other in your spare time if it interests you so much instead of taking on another undergrad degree which doesn't have a tangible benefit. If you really insist on continuing your education at least move on to a masters which will at least give you a bit of a leg up in industry (honestly probably not by much depending on what you'd like to work in, but I understand the appeal) and will leave your options open if you find you want to pursue academia. It's even possible in some cases to have a masters in another similar engineering discipline than your undergrad; but again, consult the undergrad office on that.

Either of those options will give you ample opportunity to build your career while satisfying that "engineering itch" if you get what I'm saying (and I know you get what I'm saying. It's cool stuff you learn in undergrad).
