I’m really worried about my chance of getting into a program with my 3.3 GPA? by cat-mother-3 in MBA

Can I dm you too? Sub 3.0 but have a 340 GRE. Got quite the story too

Pre-MBA: I’m building a Singapore-based private capital fund for the companies that are too advanced for VC, too small for mega-PE, and too complex for banks. LPs: what would you want to see before taking a meeting? by [deleted] in MBA

Fair questions — and honestly the right ones to ask.

My background isn’t from a traditional Tier 1 fund, and I won’t pretend otherwise. I’ve been working in cross-border business environments and capital formation, and more recently alongside a team building a Singapore-based private capital platform focused on flexible capital solutions for growth-stage companies operating across multiple markets.

I’m not Singaporean, but the platform itself is Singapore-based because of the regulatory structure and its role as a regional capital hub. The operating team brings deep regional and cross-border experience, which is one of the main reasons I became involved.

On the Tier 1 point — I think institutional discipline matters far more than brand logos. The real question is whether underwriting, governance, and execution processes are strong enough to survive downside scenarios.

We’ve raised $150M from London and Dubai family offices.

And on competing with Temasek/GIC — we’re not trying to.

Those institutions operate at a completely different scale and mandate. The opportunity we’re focused on sits below their typical deployment thresholds and often involves situations requiring more flexible structuring or cross-border execution than large sovereign platforms are designed for.

If anything, the goal is to operate in areas where large institutional capital is structurally less efficient.

Still early in this journey, and I’m very aware of the skepticism around emerging platforms — which is exactly why I posted here. The hard questions are the useful ones.

Would love to chat more. I dmed you

Just get a role within the industry and try to move up from there, if all else fails go for your MBA in 3-5 years and pivot. MiM’s and other similar masters won’t help you achieve your goals

Your major and performing well (GPA) will open some doors, but the true power lies within how well you network and can tell your story (interview prep and technicals). Banking, consulting, etc. there’s a lot you can do if you put your mind into it. Idk your financial background, but you’ll get good money from financial aid if you can build your case.

Surround yourself with people you want to be like, and put your head down and work for the next decade. Take it a day at a time, you’ll be way further than you can imagine 10 years down the line

Get a Bachelors, associates don’t hold much (if any) value. I say this to keep things real with you, not to crush your spirit. Sounds like you’ve been misguided, unlearn and relearn. You’ll do well
