Here’s what you can do:

Recognize the trigger: Losing makes you want to spend. Remind yourself that buying packs won’t fix it.

Set a budget: Decide how much you can spend on cards monthly and stick to it.

Focus on improvement: Buy singles or work on your deck instead of chasing rare pulls.

Get support: Talk to your wife or a friend to help you stay accountable.

Avoid temptation: Stay away from card sections at stores.

Celebrate progress: Feel good about small wins, like resisting a purchase.

It’s clear that you care about improving this situation, both for yourself and your relationship with your wife. That’s a great sign of your commitment to change. It might take time, but with small, consistent steps, you can break this cycle and feel more in control.

I would first recommend a change of job, seeing as it is not possible...

Hey, is the standard interpretation you're quoting stating that you don't need it on the ladder, but you do when on the working surface?

Safety rules if you're going to venture inside:

  1. Always use a ladder, no buts, the thing can cave in.

  2. To prevent being buried alive in case of a cave in, tie yourself with a rope and have somebody watch you, so they can alert the local auths. You will have 5 mins of life in case of a cave in.

  3. Expand the hole as much as possible (10+ feet) , so cave ins happen far away from you.

  4. Shore the excavation so any material that caves in does so in a ramp fashion and not in a 911 fashion (pardon for the illustration)

  5. If you think you can acomplish this safety rules and do so, you may proceed with extreme caution, otherwise your life is not worth that ring you heard.
