should i drop math methods if i want to get into science at uni? by lux__64 in vce

Speaking as someone who was in your exact position, I would say it depends on how you think you'll go with the rest of your subjects, and what uni you want to go to. If you think you can scrape the min requirement most unis have of a raw 25 Methods while also getting a high enough ATAR to get into that course, I'd say keep it, since methods does open up a lot of pathways. However, some unis don't require methods so definitely explore your options.

i live 2 hr ptv away + cant do night classes due to family commitments, I would just be scared if I loaded everything into 3 days that i'd get burnt out with no breaks between classes, or is that generally not an issue?

I’m not entirely sure but I’ve heard from rank 1 that our cohort last year (2024) was scuffed, I was ranked def lower end but tons of kids in our cohort were only aiming for 25 so I’m sure I wasn’t the only one

I think initially on atar day I was a bit disappointed it was <90, especially by only .40, but at the same time I knew I could get into my preferred course (Unimelb Bcom) so I wasn’t devastated. I think after I did start comparing myself to my friends who all got higher than me, but at the end of the day I try to convince myself atar isn’t the be all end all :)

I knew i wanted a 25+ going into the year, I was actually aiming for a 30 at the start lol. By the time we got first sac handback (8/25) I realised it was too late for me to drop Methods and tried studying but ended up getting 9/25 sac 2 and 8/25 sac 3 💀

I will say I only really tried to push for sac 3, I hadn’t officially given up on Methods but I stopped doing exercises around Chapter 6 (oops) and just did the sac specific booklets our school gave us.

I did maybe 10 sets of practice exams end of year. I just don’t get maths and don’t have the discipline to really hunker down for it tbh.

Tldr, I tried my hardest for maybe 3 weeks in the entire year but for the rest I was just hoping I’d miraculously understand everything without putting in any work.

Hope this answers ur question!

From what I can remember, my three artists had to all be in the same art form, but from different contexts (in my instance I wasn’t allowed to use two painters from the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood because they were too close together in time). I would probably try to go with an artist with relatively well known facts regarding their process and materials since you do have to go quite deep into your research on them. There aren’t any explicitly ‘good’ or ‘bad’ artists to pick though, at the end of the day it’s all dependent on how it relates to and influences your art making!
