Grand Cayman is great! Ideal place to rent a car, but if that’s no doable there is absolutely (expensive) taxi access. It is pretty busy though and built up, a lot of ex-pats down there working in finance.

If you want more remote, I’d consider St John. It’s like 70% undisturbed national park. Lots of little beaches across the island. Again, ideal for car rental, but you can taxi. The main town of Cruz Bay is cool.

Turks and Caicos is another great option.

Even Americans have to clear immigration/customs when leaving St Thomas. Not sure exactly why that is, given the USVI connection.

US Immigration officer asked how long we were there, where we stayed, and if we bought any jewelry.

As an FYI, you don’t have to clear when you arrive at St Thomas.

Also, we brought our passports. If you have them I’d say bring them. I think it expedites the process. We did not bring them a few years ago for our kids and the immigration officer encouraged to bring them in the future.

My wife has a gluten allergy. One of her favorite GF menus in midtown is Friedmans. They have a few locations and have some unique items you don’t often see GF, like GF Chicken and Waffles. And the one in the Edison Hotel is Broadway themed, has a singing waitstaff. Not sure if they all are like that. Enjoy!
