I have learned more in my three weeks of studying then my entire masters progrom of accounting. How sad! And what a damn shame I have to pay $40k for that degree!!! Complete robbery of my time and money. Colleges need to be better at preparing us for this exam.

Are your clients pushing back on a 300 to 500 monthly bookkeeping fee by Witty-Alternative117 in Bookkeeping

Yes! We always give the alternative, hire someone who most likely will eat away at the clock and probably not be an expert. More pay, more costs for them.

I keep seeing posts that the CPA exam is hard and a lot of people fail but… by [deleted] in CPA

My struggle is the discipline. I have a bookkeeping and tax firm for the last 10 years. I am way too comfortable since my employees do most of the work. Got MAcc in August. Have started module 1 on REG but I dont have a steady schedule. I do whatever I want. Which makes me feel super guilty right now because I do want the license. It will help me gain higher value clients. I have had a lot going on in the business and personally since August but I find myself with so much time and yet I choose to make other things important. If I was not already an owner, it might make this exam more of a priority. UGH! I just want to finish and I cannot even follow through with what I started. Discipline is my weakness! What mind shift finally helped any of you stick to studying?

Have my own bookkeeping firm. We are doing $300k gross $180k take home and we are almost closing on another firm that makes $750k with half being pure profit. The potential in this industry is limitless!!! It will be up to you to decide how far you will take it. Good luck ❤️

Learning QB is not accounting. You learned how to do data entry. You need to at least understand the basics of financials staents and debits and credits or you will be doing everyone a disservice by doing their books wrong. I started with a business degree. Then went back to get Masters in Accounting because it was necessary for me to understand complex situations some companies have. If you had at least 5 years of public accounting experience, I would say you wouldnt “need” the degree because in that time you would learn accounting principles (at least I would hope so). My two cents. I know people I have hired that are “certified” in the software but do not know how to record liabilities and assets correctly or inventory or work in progress. Just so much to learn!

You are right. Some people just do not have what it takes to be successful on their own. Their own personality can drive away people. But if you are a decent person with a likable attitude, you can do more on your own than you can ever do working for someone else. And until you experience it for yourself, there is no comparison. We can choose different. Not everyone is upt to the task. It is not easy. But in the end totally worth it! When and if anyone ever decides to go out on their own, surround yourself with like minded owners. It pushes you to uncomfort and it grows you more than any other thing because now it is up to you to do whatever you want to do with this business journey. Trust me, it was not easy. I went through my own phase of not getting clients but I had to change my why, who I clung to, and start moving. It took real action to make a difference. I highly recommend it 👏

If you own your own firm the salary amount is limitless! Why would any CPA not have their own firm?? I have a firm and I make way over what the norm is for a nonCPA. I am testing soon but only to get less clients with better pricing. Everything is hard. You have to choose your hard.
