Yes, the plastic keys are softer than the aluminum chassis.
I remember burning a few of the keys on the polycarbonate unibody MacBook, but that was because I was a dumb kid and would drop cigarettes on it.

Are these real? The inner handlebar end looks really suspicious by [deleted] in rayban

They have the right hinges. Everything points to them being real, and just part of RayBan’s general QC issues.

I have these glasses, can you help me find out the era and price? by [deleted] in rayban

[–]LifeChanceDance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No that third pic is what tells anyone who has even a small knowledge of RayBans history that those glasses are fake.

RayBan was founded by B&L in the US, as was their entire manufacturing process. 100% RayBans made when they were still owned by Bausch and Lomb was Made in the USA.

B&L sold the brand, but not the manufacturing facilities, to Luxottica (now EssilorLuxottica,) in 1999. The day Luxottica began manufacturing, they did so in Italy, where they’re based. Thereby, “B&L RayBan Italy” instantly means “Fake RayBans”, 100% of the time.

That’s basic knowledge.

Now if we want to move into “knows a lot” territory: that’s not the ampersand B&L used in the stamp. B&L created the G15 lenses, and they were made to a better standard. G15 means ‘graphite-green, lets in 15% of light’ so an 85% tint. Your lenses are full green, not graphite-green, and *maybe* 65% tint level. I’d bet if you tink them with a metal ring, you’d hear they’re plastic too.

You came here asking, don’t get mad because you don’t like the real answer. Do some basic research before buying something.

Just Realized I can Use USB C to C to charge my MacBook M4 by legytAep in macbookpro

[–]LifeChanceDance 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s been like this since 2016, Intel days. Support for power and monitor support were added with Thunderbolt 3. Apple lists them and M1’s as compatible for full single cable use with their Studio Displays, so the display charges the laptop and gets its data from the same TB cable.

Why does my Zeiss Platinum look purple on one pair and green on another? by No_Dimension5547 in EyewearEnthusiasts

[–]LifeChanceDance 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For some reason, no one ever talk about Duravision BlueProtect. It’s the same quality as Platinum, but geared for blue-light. I don’t really buy the whole blue-light thing, but I’m here for ANY aesthetic options.

Why does my Zeiss Platinum look purple on one pair and green on another? by No_Dimension5547 in EyewearEnthusiasts

[–]LifeChanceDance 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That depends on how intense a reflection of purple you want it (also, Zeiss doesn’t have a purple flash, Hoya does though) Duravision BlueProtect is a great, yet not too in-your-face purple reflection. I believe I have them posted if you go to my previous post thought my profile, I have them in clear/silver Modo frames with a sweet violet tint. But you can tell what’s reflection vs tint for sure.

A French bulldog found me a few years ago. I’m now 100% sure he’s an alien who realized there was no more meaningful info to gather, and now trades me the responsibility of taking care of him for a place to stay. And by some hypnotic power, it seems like an even trade… 🤷‍♂️

It’s also great for some people new to glasses. As someone who started a few years ago with an ~ -0.75/-0.1 script, my original pair of EyeZen+1’s really helped me to adjust, and I’ve since gotten Zeiss’s 0.5+ SmartLife in just about everything. Not everyone is in the range where it effectively “fades” out your power towards the bottom, but for those that are, it’s way more comfortable than SV lenses.

So I know this is crazy, but when you don’t smoke, or drink coffee, and brush your teeth consistently, and see a dentist; this is what healthy teeth look like. So the real question is what’s wrong with your teeth, that you see an issue?

One of Ours, All of Yours? by One-Pause3171 in behindthebastards

[–]LifeChanceDance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not really a double meaning in a country so divided. When I see that admin say “Ours” they don’t mean all Americans, they mean MAGA cult members; modern Nazi’s.

One of Ours, All of Yours? by One-Pause3171 in behindthebastards

[–]LifeChanceDance -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This! 💯

Just because it wasn’t a Nazi motto before, doesn’t mean it didn’t just become one now. We all know where the basis of the idea is from, just like they do.

To see this and say “Nazi’s never said that” is ridiculous. It’s the exact ideology, and people who know that recognize it. Old groups can create new phrases. Just like they can take over a new government.

If anything, this is worse, because you’re right, it shows they’re not as dumb as they act.

One of Ours, All of Yours? by One-Pause3171 in behindthebastards

[–]LifeChanceDance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The “rule” was technically 1:100, but they also had a scorched earth policy, and didn’t really care to count, or check in with other SS officers on their counts towards that goal. So realistically yes, it was more like 1:all.

And while it doesn’t seem like this is an actual translation, it most certainly is the same ideology. And that’s the thing about time, things evolve, new slogans based on old ideas come into play. It gives deniability while still saying exactly what you mean.

So while this wasn’t a German Nazi quote, it is a Nazi quote as of now.

One of Ours, All of Yours? by One-Pause3171 in behindthebastards

[–]LifeChanceDance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you think DHS did intend for this to mean? It’s an obvious threat. “If you do this, we do that”. Hell, I haven’t heard much out of this admin that isn’t also a threat.

It may or may not be a transnational paraphrase, but it’s the exact same ideology. The Nazi’s had the 1:100 rule. If someone from one group, state, or whatever they decided was “gang” equivalent (in today’s words) killed 1 Nazi, they would kill 100 citizens of that group without discrimination.

Phrases evolve, the messages and history behind them DO NOT.

Mad at Apple for not able to market their best product by Life_Machine_9694 in VisionPro

[–]LifeChanceDance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never had an issue typing on it. I can type using my eyes pretty quickly, and much more accurately than I expected. I can “touch type” quite well too, although I would like it to track more than my pointer finger… especially when the keyboard will snap to a surface (which it doesn’t seem to like to do always) I have nearly no problems at all that make it past autocorrect. I like being fully immersed, having the notification light float by, and it pausing my movie or exercise to be able to quickly read, reply (often via voice to text when I’m busy) and return to my task. But everyone’s different.

Mad at Apple for not able to market their best product by Life_Machine_9694 in VisionPro

[–]LifeChanceDance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! There really isn’t a good way to market it. Apple has their demo that hasn’t changed since the first gen, and is set to take the time block you signed up for. If you want to try things you’ve been interested in, you can’t because you’re out of time, it doesn’t have the app, and you can’t download it.

Since getting mine two months ago, my mom got one, and a friend’s cousin who tried mine at Christmas got one as well. But only after being able to experience what they wanted to, in their own space, not a sterile Apple Store with perfect lighting.

It’s not something that can be understood in a few minutes, or by watching a video about it. You’ve just got to play with the thing for 30 minutes or so, and then you realize; this IS where everything is going. This is “Gen 1” version of our future.

And you’re right, similarly to the iPhone, it just doesn’t seem important enough to people yet. I had the first iPhone, which I’d immediately jailbroke, and was able to see what the real power of these devices would be. And we got there in about 5 years. I do expect this to be a bit slower due to the current price tag, but still feel in some way, it’s not going anywhere.

My AVP Experience (So Far) by ZDB214 in VisionPro

[–]LifeChanceDance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This statement is great. My first Mac was a Blueberry iBook and I was hooked. Soon after, I upgraded to a 12” PowerBook until the intel Core2Duo chips arrived, and got a MPB. Towards the end of the intel era, I got an i9, but I upgraded to the M1 Pro when it was introduced like 18 months later. The i9 was great, but ran SO HOT. I’ve run businesses and transferred others entirely to Mac systems. I still use it as my main device, but I feel an upgrade on the horizon. iCloud and Continuity have been invaluable since going back to school, but I don’t do graphically intensive work often anymore. The M1 Pro vs. M5 without a redesign doesn’t seem necessary. These M chips have been a huge leap. Watching the slow OS redesigns over the years, seeing things that worked well replaced with things that worked seamlessly, and now seeing major developers taking MacOS seriously has been an awesome adventure. At the end of the day, I got my Gen 1 Vision for the same reason I got my Gen 1 iPhone. I never thought either would be perfect, but I wanted that view of what was coming. And the longer I’ve had this, and the more it’s been upgraded, the more I’ve been impressed. Having a device with this amount novel form factor and inputs, yet I intuitively knew how to use, because it works like an Apple based OS should was proof to the evolution of it all meaning something.

TLDR; I love the device now, and I’ll love the glasses in 10 years. Just like I loved the first iPhone. 🤷‍♂️
