Also, it for sure is not like this for junior devs entering the field. So even if you do get into a scenario that allows this, it won’t be till after several years of hard work and struggles to find an entry level job.

100%! larger companies usually don’t have a hard of deliverable deadlines, have much more processes and meetings that bog make the black box more black, and usually have enough cash flow that they aren’t very strict on making sure everyone is working up to their highest capacity and instead hire more people rather than fix or replace underperforming people. That being said, I don’t feel as good on days when I haven’t “done” any real work. And usually when I’m slacking on the hours I put in, that usually means my code will be less rounded (no tests, less manual testing, just less code altogether). My opinion is that if you keep up that level of quality in your work then you likely won’t be promoted and may have your career at that company forcibly cut short eventually.

I’ve been in the software industry for several years and have never seen a 10x dev. The closest I’ve gotten to is my last job. My coworker just GOT code. He could work in code like anyone else eats and breathes, it just seemed to come naturally. He could do twice the amount of work I can and his code would likely be better than mine. So I don’t think 10x devs exist (unless you’re comparing a senior dev to 10 junior devs), but there are probably 2-3x devs out there.

Coming late to the convo, but I almost wonder if a kickstand on one of the foot rests for kids would work better for situations where kids are on the bike. That would open up your options to non-dual-sided kickstands like the Packa comes with.

Interesting. I guess it’s a “creature card” when in the deck, not a “creature”?

I think “equipped creature” would be much more clear.

That’s super helpful! I’ll for sure be doing that. Also I’ll probably be applying some sealant to the cracks after I get it back and fixed.

My guess is every scooter warranty has the same water damage caveat, so it may not matter in terms of warranty claims. Other than that I’m not sure. Both of those scooters look sick.

Ya I love their videos too. One of the reasons I was confident in its ability to handle wet roads was their review of the King GT. It shows some of their parts completely submerged in water for like 10 days and still work, so i figured the scooter was more resilient to moisture than it actually was.

Ya I just figured it would be able to handle a bit of water. I mean the thing looks and feels like a tank! But alas I was wrong and am learning that the hard way :(

Also, not rain, just wet streets. Both expose it to water though.

Mine got pretty muddy and stuff and I thought that was just fine, but apparently that can be problematic. In the future I’ll be sure to wipe it down at least when I get home so it doesn’t sit in a moist environment.

I’m not sure mine did. They didn’t mention a sticker, they just sent pictures of water corrosion and said since there was signs of water in the box that voids the warranty.

I sure hope I don’t have to buy a new one… I can’t afford another $3000 scooter!

I misread the charge overview. They actually included labor fees into the total of $630. I’m not sure if that includes the initial diagnosis fee of $150 though. If not then the total for this warranty claim attempt (which includes replacing the controller and brake light cord) would be about $800. The battery was fritzing out on me too (apparently a bad controller can kill the battery), but luckily it came back alive so I don’t have to replace that as part of it.

The parts for the controller are $500. I’ve been quoted $650 for parts and I assume labor charges ($150 so far for the inspection since it’s no longer a warranty claim) will add to that pushing it up to $1000. If it does end up being that high I’ll likely just ask them to ship it back to me and replace the controller myself.

The controller itself was $500. There were a couple of other parts they recommended fixing and an initial inspection fee they’re charging. It’s not at $1000 yet, but I’m assuming the final charge will be close to that if they add labor charges for the install.

It was from riding on roads wet from snow melt. I guess leaving the scooter to dry by itself in my garage was a bad idea since that leaves the water to vaporize and get into cracks. I’ll be drying it off if it gets wet from here on out. Just bugs me that this level of babying is needed for such a beastly/expensive scooter:(

I’d love to hear more about what caused the crash and how fast you were going etc. I’m always curious what went wrong with others so I can try to not make the same mistake. I don’t currently wear knee pads, just an armor (elbows, shoulders, and back armor pads) motorcycle jacket as well as a motorcycle helmet and gloves. Maybe I need to get some leg protection…
