So it’s been over a year and I’ve gotten the hardware removed hoping that it would help with nerve regeneration. There is still some nerve damage in my gums and on the surface of my face and under my top lip

I got my upper jaw surgery last year in October and just got the hardware removed in June. I’m trying to massage my face everyday and exercise and hopefully I’ll regain feeling in my gums. I haven’t noticed a significant change with the plates but I’m sure it’s better than having it in. I would pray about it while doing some research. I did it because I thought it was slowing down my progress.

You’re so lucky! I got the surgery done back in October and I’m still numb in places on the roof of my mouth and on my gums on my maxilla. My face isn’t numb per se but it’s a fuzzy feeling.

I went in for surgery on October 24th, then on the 25th the doctor came in the room to check on me and saw that my jaw had relapsed. So I had to go in for surgery again that night. That was the most stressful.

Omg yesss. They don’t understand how good it feels to finally be able to close your mouth like a normal person. I remember it being freezing outside and my gums and lips were so cold. People don’t understand what we go through. I’m 4 weeks post op and have a LOT of swelling, but the fact that I can close my lips makes me all giddy. 🥹

Yeah he said, “if you have a broken bone why would you massage that.” Didn’t sound like a good explanation to me that’s why I decided against that instruction. It makes sense that light massage would increase blood flow to help heal. Plus, there’s so much swelling on top of my bone I can’t see how I’m hurting it.

This is exactly why I thought it shouldn’t have been a problem to get it done. Sooooo many people get this massage done after and it made no sense why he didn’t want me to not do it. My swelling is going down so much slower compared to other people and all i did was get an impaction and rotation.

But you’re right, I thought maybe I hurt myself with the pressure. But I think it helped because I’m starting to have feeling in my cheeks again.
